This stupid car. The Carplay will just disconnect and refuses to reconnect for a day or so. Just hangs. Does this with three phones. Had it at the dealer twice. I think it is a hardware problem, Bad antenna, something. These idiots at the dealership think it's a frigging laptop and just load upgrades...

Maybe we shouldhave bought a tesla.

1. They will try to eliminate software issues before hardware. Either or both can cause various problems.

2. Tesla’s are still available. The used car market is still fairly seller friendly, your MME will fetch a decent price.

3. Good luck with CarPlay on Teslas.

Do you have 3.3.1 OTA installed? And if so, did the problem start after the update? I've experienced something similar. I think Ford messed up when they tried to support multiple phones connected at once with 3.3.1. Prior to that update I'd very rarely had problems with CarPlay. However since then, in order to get things to work I've had to delete my wife's phone from the car and turn off CarPlay for the MME on her phone as well. We'll see, but I think that should finally work around the problem. Luckily it isn't a big deal for her to not be able to use CarPlay since she basically never drives the car, and doesn't use CarPlay even if/when she drives with me.

Yesterday the screen shutoff and rebooted when I chose to play a song, and then 5 sec later chose another on on the list. Damn good thing it wasn't controlling the powertrain or we'd have been Screwed.

Mine’s an early 2022, if that makes any difference, and CarPlay is a PITA. This is my fourth car with CarPlay and the others have used it seamlessly.

i need my tunes, so via BT or cord I expect to be able to get in my car and have CarPlay at the ready. Less than a third of the time it connects faultlessly. Usually nothing happens and it tells me to connect a phone to use CarPlay, even though I’ve set it up repeatedly, including rebooting my phone before doing it. Then it keeps telling me to connect connect connect. My phone has Carplay set to start up even if the phone is locked.
I’ve had better luck with it plugged in, but even then it’s shown the info that Apple Music is playing, and either there’s no sound or it’s still coming out of my phone, not the car speakers.
Really aggravating. I haven’t yet stopped by the dealer to see if theycan get it to work consistently.

Until you sort it out, have you tried just plugging the phone into a usb? Should work seamlessly and charge faster as well.

Is it really that hard to leave a cord in the car? Yeah, it sucks if you have to use a workaround, but it’s a pretty easy one.

Why doesn’t it work flawlessly? Because computers never have. And you’re dealing with 3 at the moment (the car, your phone and your wife’s). No clue which computer is the problem.

I seem to have issues connecting my wife’s phone when mine is automatically connected to CarPlay when I get in the car. The car Bluetooth doesn’t show up on her phone (but her phone shows up on the screen on the car). iPhone 13.

When that happens, I shut off the car, open the door, turn back on, and it works.

Why? Computers……

There’s a reason why EVERY IT support phone call starts with “did you try turning it off and on first….”

I never bother with the dealership for stuff like this, it eventually gets resolved with an update on either the phone or the car. My Job 1 had all sorts of quirks, but they've pretty much all have been resolved with OTA updates. I have no idea what some folks have zero issues with wireless CarPlay and others have issues like this. My wireless CarPlay works 99% of the time. If it doesn't, I just use wired CarPlay. I have noticed that if you plug it in as wired, that sometimes helps it establish a wireless CarPlay link, so maybe give that a try sometime. The dealer doesn't know shit about this new car, so don't waste your time with software sync stuff with them.

I've got a early Job 2, still at 2.8.3, and have noticed more frequent connectivity issues since about 2 weeks ago. Coincidently, this is about consistent when my iPhone applied the 15.6.1 security update.

Even though it seems unlikely to be the culprit given the release notes, it does take two to tango, so isolating the culprit is a bit more involved than blaming the car.

Environmental EMI can also be in play as well. Something which I didn't appreciate when I upgraded my fluorescent shop lights to LED was that LEDS have switching networks that are significant sources of EMI. I basically shutdown the wireless control of one of my garage door openers if the lights have been on for a few minutes. I'm not saying this is in play here, but again there's a lot going on in the environment these days, so its a bit more complicated to diagnose than one would think at first blush. Heck, in the early years after 9/11, you couldn't operate the RF key fobs of autos if you were near the harbor in San Diego. The Navy had jammed all the frequencies in an effort to deter attacks on docked boats. ?‍

FWIW, I've got so many lightning cables now from all the devices, I just leave one in the console in case this happens.

I stopped by the dealer, and of course it worked on the first try, and worked fine again today. He said it may be because my phone is old its BT signal is erratic, and the cord I have is poor quality.
I bought a new cord, trying a USB-C instead of USB-A. I’ll report back.

SO you have accepted the microsoft turn it off and reboot method of using computers. good for you. The biggest problem these days is lazy software programmers calling themselves software engineers when they are nothing more than hacks that use the try and try and try until it works, and then ships it. Rebooting a PC to fix it may be OK for a cheap $400 laptop but not a $60K car. Demand better. Don't settle for mediocre. Also, get a Mac. I never reboot my mac, Ever.

Consumer devices are required to be able to accept environmental EMI and still function properly. This car fails in that regard. As for the Navy thing, Yeah, that is a whole different issue. That was intentional for national security. This is a car shitting itself when driving past a house with a camera on it. (I found the offending signal).

Sorry, but your $400 laptop has better processing power and software than your $60k car.

You can demand better, but it’ll get you nowhere. Glad your mac works, but my iPhones have always needed a reset from time to time.

$6 on Amazon for a charging cord is your path of least resistance.
