Wanted to see if anyone else started going through the exercise of filing their 2021 Taxes. Using Free Fillable Forms, I started filling out everything as usual, until I got to Form-8936, and have been unable to adjust the value on Line 18.

The Form isn't letting me adjust the value to that of Line 15, per the instructions.

Anyone else having similar issues?

Looks like they are defaulting to a "two wheel vehicle". Is there any option prior to this to select 4 wheels?

Leave block 16 and 17 blank

Should fix it.

Unfortunately, Lines 16 and 17 gets auto filled (text box with green font means they can get input while blue means auto fill). You are correct in that for some reason the forms currently default to two-wheel vehicle.

It might work out better to wait until mid-February or later and try again. This time of year, the IRS is rushing through form updates from last minute congressional changes. Errors on less commonly filed forms require a bit of time to iron out.

I filed a few weeks too early last year, and ended up filing on paper as a result. I couldn't efile with free fillable forms because it rejected my submission with a nonsensical XML error message... I couldn't submit via TaxHawk, TurboTax etc for similar reasons.

The instructions were right. I filled the forms correctly. The servers just weren't ready to handle certain less common cases yet.

If I had waited another two weeks, it turns out TaxHawk had gotten it all working properly. By not waiting I had to stuff a lot of pages into an envelope and wait months to see if it was processed and accepted.
