After missing this event last year, I wasn't about to miss it again. Thanks to Tom, his wife Meredith, Emily from the Ford Model E Comms Team, and Joe from the Northeast Lightning Club / Lightning Club of America.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Bummer Tom Moloughney doesn't drive a Mach E 2nd NE Lightning Club cookout

On Saturday Sept. 14, Tom Moloughney hosted the 2nd Annual Northeast Lightning Club Cookout at his home in South Plainfield, NJ! We had either 29 or 30 Lightnings there (with their owners and others of course)! The driveway was a veritable panorama of Lightnings, tightly parked from one end of the long driveway to the other.

Here's Tom's first short on the event, posted on X:

After pizza appetizers, we feasted on burgers and chicken fresh off the grill around Tom's pool. Then Tom took us to the State of Charge Garage (and his basement) for a demonstration of Ford's Home Integration System, running part of his home's electrical needs off his Lariat ER.

Emily and the Ford crew organized some giveaways from Ford and from Tom's State of Charge store.

I expect Tom will put out a video on the event that I'll link here along with a few interviews he did during the event (once they are posted).

It was a great chance to meet other Lightning owners (and rekindle old friendships with some). Represented were the Northeast Lightning Club, Mid-Atlantic Lightning Club, Mid-West Lightning Club, and Carolinas Lightning Club (I don't recall anyone from Great Lakes this year).

Looking forward to the Third Annual event!

BTW, it was on the way back from Tom's that I tried out that Ford-branded DCFC. Fortunately, there was a Tesla nearby. At the Tesla station I charged enough to get home with 10% SOC. However, I may have been driving home a little more spiritedly than I drove up. I spent the latter half of the trip home playing just how fast can I drive and still make it home.

I think I did well:

Cool, I'd like to meet Tom someday. Driveway at full electric capacity.

Thoroughly discussed content isn't for everyone. But there's a pretty big audience that does appreciate such. His channel is evidence.

Not everything is possible to be packaged in a 12 second TicToc format. ?

Yeah, I love his state of charge channel. His charging station reviews definitely go further than most anyone else, including freezing cables and shock tests and all that.

At this point though complaining about video length from major channels like his is pointing out the obvious. Unfortunately YouTube sets payment metrics based on video length so many of the larger channels need to make longer videos to make the video itself worthwhile.

It's not an amazing situation, but I don't blame the people that need that income to keep making videos. YouTube should structure the payments based more heavily on viewership and impact and not as much on length. Plenty of times I have looked for a video on how to do something and I just need to see one specific part of it, but it's an 11 minute video because they have to add in the history of whatever the part is I am working with in order to hit the 10 minute mark for the best monetization.

20 minutes to explain how to charge a GM EV using a Tesla adapter? ?
There’s more to the video than that. But hey, no one is making you watch them and many of us find them instructive. I normally watch them at 1.25x speed.

I’ll freely admit that I have the attention span of a gnat, so that’s on me. I’ve actually watched portions of his videos. I just had no idea who he was or that he was from northern New Jersey.
