Recently, my calls have been placed by horrible quality when using wired Android auto or Bluetooth.
The best way I can describe the problem is that it sounds like the other line gets "stuck" sometimes.
For example,
" Hey John, are youuuuuuuu doinggggggggg?"
There are also intermittent periods where the other line can't hear me at all!
When I switch the comnection back to my phone only, the issue is fixed.
Therefore, it seems like it's a problem with my Pixel 9 Pro's connection to my 2022 Mach E.
Anyone have any insight or advice?

Thanks!

Try rebooting both the phone and the Ford sync system. Hold volume down and the skip ahead buttons on the steering wheel for several seconds to reboot Sync.

I've done that. Tried unpairing and repairing too.

Hmmm. You said it's a new problem, anything change recently? New phone, new software update? I haven't heard of any similar issues being linked to the Mach-E (though anything's possible).

Also try to rule out unlucky coincidences, e.g. maybe your mobile network just happened to get congested when linked to the car and then eased up when you disconnected.

Also - do you know what your Ford's software level is at? The latest Sync update is reputed to improve disconnection issues with Android Auto and Car play and it might help with your issue.

I’ve had this issue with both of my phones (iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 15 Pro Max). It’s been happening since I bought the car about a year ago. I only use Sync, I do not use CarPlay. Some days are better than others. There doesnt appear to be a rhyme or reason in my case. Yes, phones are up to date. Yes, car is up to date with OTA. Tried putting the phones in different locations in the car didnt make a difference.

Side note, my 2024 SuperDuty has BT issues where the calls will drop from the Sync and go back to phone, then pick back up on BT all on their own.

It’s 2025 and Bluetooth is still a joke.

Samsung.
Galaxy S21 and an S24

Both work consistently in the 2023 Mach-E, 2022 F150, and 2024 F350.

So I wouldn't think it's a widespread issue?

Maybe it’s Apple BT stack causing the issue, but Id think more people would be complaining and that it’d be impacting other makes and models of cars. Doesn’t ever happen in our non-Fords - or actually my Sync3 in my 21 GT500. Drives me nuts.

I dont have any Android devices anymore so I can’t really test that theory, but who knows. Frustrating is all. Maybe a little dangerous as it leads to trying to fix my phone call while driving v. having full attention on the road.

Any reason you are not using CarPlay? You might want to see if that makes a difference.

That's my biggest gripe with Carplay in the Mustang, Carplay will often drop phone calls back to the handset for a few seconds before reconnecting.

That’s all very interesting, must be a settings issue or one relating to the phone, car or connection I’m thinking.

Stangy’s hands-free always between a late iPhone connected by CarPlay is the very best I have ever had.

Only issue I only very occasionally have is that everything connects but with no ‘phone sound and voice between ‘phone & car - a quick stop, lock, unlock, re-start car rectifies.

In fact the hands-free is soooooooo good it winds my anti-technology mother up infinitely as anything over “your [my] internet” does as if I write the internet, host it and am singly responsible for it ?

She rings, we chat for a while, she asks if I am at home and when I say no am at 70mph just going over Spaghetti Junction I sense the seething the other end because there can be no feigned “I can’t hear you on your hands-free” and similar.

Always giggle after we disconnect?????

For business it helps immensely with a professional quality to important, or any calls.

My complaint is that it works a little TOO good, if I'm not paying attention.

I'll explain....

Been camping for the past 9 days, in Florida at an Air Show, and the F150 Powerboost has been parked in "Generator Mode" (ProPower) the whole time. So technically, the truck is always on and Sync4 is always within Bluetooth range. So everytime I return to the campsite, Sync4/Android Auto try to launch. Unwittingly I won't be hearing notifications because they are playing in an unoccupied vehicle. ??

Or I'll receive a call or video chat from a grandchild and I SEE them but I don't hear them. Oops, I'm connected again to a vehicle that isn't even in eyesight.

Frustrates me to no end.

Any time I’m on the phone or get a call and then get in the car, I have to apologize for the next 30 seconds because the call goes to the Bluetooth, then back to my phone, then BT, then phone then BT then CarPlay in that order….. every time.

“Seamless” is my expectation and it’s never worked seamlessly.

Has anyone figured out how to get it to work?

The other day CarPlay kept failing every time I got a call and the call was in an endless loop going from the phone to the car and back and forth. Even if I tried to do speakerphone on my phone, I couldn’t get it to stop trying to connect to the car and failing.

It's sad how bad Ford is at this. The cheap Android unit I put in my Prius works flawlessly with Carplay, it does lots of things better than Ford, and even has the 360 cameras.
