I haven't tried this but if you plug in and don't want to charge (say you charge when you get to 20% and you at 50%). Does the car precondition with the power from the mains automatically?
I am sure it must do but I do not use the scheduled preconditioning.

Yes, if you have the charge limit set, the car will precondition without charging past that limit. But 50% is the minimum charge limit you can set.

I am just now trying preconditioning. Had to lower my home charge target to keep the car from charging per the schedule so that makes it a bit cumbersome. Since my car sleeps in a garage I will likely stop preconditioning as it doesn't seem to have any benefit. Battery temp with and without looks to be about 60F.

You can plug it in and I think hit stop charge on your phone then it will just pull from external when it starts the precondition process.

I set to 50% at home and have also hit the stop charge option. Either works. I also set my precondition settings 1 hour before I leave during the AM, typically to account for slight time differences.

Do you have to have it plugged in in order to precondition? Or can it be without? If so is there an option I need it to be in?

You must plugged in, to 240v. Setting a departure time is the only way.

Yes you have to be plugged in, and you have to schedule a departure time beforehand.
