And now we know why the added safety features.

I know this is a stupid question and I'm not going to attempt it but I'm curious if it's possible.

The idea I have in mind is running a generator in the trunk and plugging it in while driving.

Or, even more fun (read: dumber), plug it into my friends F150 lightning and charge while following him (very closely).

Is this possible or will the car not charge while in drive?
The only way to do it is going down a large mountain road.

WOW...what a concept. I would suggest continuously driving downhill on a 5% grade at 50 mph minimum. Let us know.

just load it on a flatbed, tow it with the lightning and charge while towing ;)

Foot on the gas a brake at the same time = constant regeneration = perpetual motion machine INFINITE RANGE!

you *could* hook up a tow strap and "bridle" to front tow holes, get pulled by anybody with your car on, 1-p driving active and your MME in drive.... regen braking would charge your MME.... just like if you were going down a really long steep downhill.

you probably would have to apply some throttle to keep the regen down to 20-50kw to avoid too much load on the tow vehicle, and too much heat from extended regen.

I would highly suggest using ODB2 and Carscanner customer dashboard to modulate your regen.

Hello there DeltaDelta.
Try this, get on top of a mountain or a plateau, if you live out west, set the cruise control or one pedal driving, and roll down from there. The Regen will charge your battery and increase the mileage per kilowatt. That will be much better than try the” what if stupid stuff” that a Tesla fan has tried, just to make a You Tube video.
On the same subject but not exactly what you have asked, some of us would like to “TOW” the Mach E behind an RV to charge the battery on our way to our camping spots.
We got the same answers from Ford.
No…..Hell No.!!!!
Quickest way to destroy motors and void the warranty.
To be honest with you, I am not putting you down, most of us have some wild hairs growing at the base of our buttcracks, that we would like to try Wild and Crazy things.!!!
It is not Logical DeltaDelta.
It is your choice though.!!!!

I would love to see a readout on the center screen while driving that shows the instantaneous consumption of energy from the HVB. Updated a couple of times a second of course.

Back to being towed by a semi or something... Use regen mode to charge up the battery. With the vehicle on and foot off the accelerator, the vehicle cannot tell the difference between rolling downhill and being towed.

It would work if you could get a tractor beam to lock on but of course you'd need a cling-on attachment to make it hold. You could divert some of the beam into Romulan supercharger for the DC conversion but be careful it doesn't overheat and warp the impulse drive. It would certainly be an enterprising endeavor, I say make it so. ?

The correct answer is it can be done, if the car did not have the safety programming to lock it into park when it is plugged in, you could easily load share with the battery & the charger.
but the cars programming wont allow you to plug in and then drive away.

However, I would venture to bet the car overrides that feature if you are in drive and the speed is greater than 0.
This would be a safety feature in case of a sensor error that thought the car was plugged in while it was in motion. It would be very bad if the car just went into park because it thought the charge cable was plugged in at freeway speeds.

So if you are really curious, figure out a way to try and plug in a charger while you are already in motion. But once you stop, I would bet that it would go into park
