I posted about this on another thread, but think it is important enough to merit its own thread here about charging. This is a BIG deal that @OutofSpecKyle could do this on the public network. The buildout is happening just in time for our cars.

I can't wait for the full video. I sent my wife a link to the video and a link to the Cannonball map. She said she wanted to try some road trips in the Mach-E. ?

I'll be interested to see a video on this as well. One specific route does not a full nationwide network make, but it sounds based on that Tweet to have been a really smooth experience.

Maybe the improvements for EA are paying off in specific locations at least.

What is a "Model E"? I thought Ford owned the trademark for "Model E", hence Tesla's Model 3?

correct but it does mean that the charging network is finally getting somewhere right?

Now we know that faster charging shortens the trip. Who would have thought? ? If you can charge at 800v the EA charging network is best.

He hasn't posted the full video yet, just a time lapse, but that charging curve and maintaining the high charge rate deeper into the curve I think is the key. I am REALLY hoping that rather than opening up more range with the big buffer in the Mach E, that Ford works on extending that curve deeper into the pack. For my everyday, my range and charging is going to be fine, but on a road trip, I would rather go from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes rather than 45.

if this interests you at all there are a few ICE-related movies out there. There's of course The Cannonball Run (1981) - IMDb but there's also The Gumball Rally (1976) - IMDb (which is a better movie than you might first think) and the recent Apex: The Secret Race Across America which is an actual documentary of one of the most recent ICE runs that for a time was the best time (it's been surpassed again I believe).

also obligatory disclaimer: kids don't try this at home. ask your parent's permission before non-stop aggressively breaking the speed limit and driving in an inherently dangerous way that puts you and others on the road at risk. contact a doctor if your run lasts for more than 60 hours.

I agree we should experience tremendous improvement to the national EV charging infrastructure in the coming 24-36 months, however, analysis of @OutofSpecKyle ability to re-set this record should acknowledge that EA dedicated a team of technicians to actively monitor progress of the effort and charger status along the route, helping to make pitstops as seamless as they possibly could. Not the experience you will receive on your way to the beach or your ski vacation.

More importantly, this intimate cooperation between the racers and EA was a fool-hardy decision by someone in EA. The racers conspired to break laws and determined to put their own safety at tremendous risk. Do not ignore that they also put innocent others, who by chance happened to share the roads with the racers, at significant risk. EA's involvement makes them part of the conspiracy.

These foolish racers and EA may think this is just a bit of fun. The participants may think they have superior skill as compared to an average driver. Process this. They claim to have taken a 6,000+ pound vehicle over speeds of 160 miles per hour. Three tons of lead and steel. Not on a closed track. On the roads near many of us.

[EDIT—I mistakenly used Taycan gross vehicle weight. With three adult males the actual weight of the racing vehicle was likely approx. 5,250 lbs not 6,0000. Still 2 1/2 tons. Roughly 1,000 pounds more than the 2013 Dodge Journey involved in the California accident linked below.]

A broken suspension part. A blown tire. An errant buck. A sneezing fit. Blinding sun. As many scenarios as you can imagine could easily have cost innocent lives. We can't control the stupidity of these racers, but we can fault the corporate (?) decision of Electrify America to aid and enable them. The treasure EA is using to build our charging network was put at risk. How much of it would you want if seven members of your family were taken?

Just curious . . . I have not seen a full video posted yet . . . was there an article about this (how EA worked with them and how fast they were going?)

Google is your friend.

[Edit. Google is not our friend. Their promise to do no evil has not been kept. I should have said Googling can be your friend.]
