Car scanner is gone from Android Auto

Which one? There's a boatload last time I looked in the playstore. Assuming the Torq app is still available, the free version can clear codes, etc, if you need a replacement suggestion.

CarScanner was included in Android Auto and could be displayed on the Mach-E's screen. I haven't used it for some time, but when I wanted to open it today, it wasn't listed among other apps.

That is the one I use. I never tried to see it in Android Auto, but I did when you asked, and it doesn’t show there for me either.

I see, the dashboard mode might be useful to some.

I see it both on my home page & Google Play. This may be because I have it installed. I would be concerned if this is not the case for others. I find the app useful & I will be updating my phone one day.

I just checked my wife's phone (she did not have car scanner installed). I shows as available/installable on Google Play.

I've never actually tried it, but it still shows as an available option to add to me in Android Auto. Did it maybe get unchecked for you?

Does not show up on my S22+ customize launcher list but strangely shows up in the android auto "version and permission info" list.

Mine occasionally "forgets" also when I haven't used it in a while. My solution is to open the app on my phone, then reboot the Sync screen. After that, the Car Scanner app reappears on AA's app menu.
