I go Settings, Phones, and do it on that screen. I'm not near the car to be sure on the names of the buttons, though.
You just expand the phone from that screen and then press the blue CarPlay button. Wait a second and press the now gray CarPlay button.

Most every time it will reconnect and you will have audio.

I get this frequently in my 21. Waiting for CarPlay to connect before shifting helps a lot, but it will still happen once in awhile. Settings-phone- CarPlay disconnect then reconnect is the fastest recovery method. Rebooting sync by holding volume down and next track on the steering wheel usually works but takes way longer.
Switching to radio and back used to work, but that stopped working for me several months ago.
I had one case where nothing worked ( reboot, wired, turn off car and open door) and I had to reboot the phone to connect.

Having the most annoying thing happen regularly. I have an iPhone and use Carplay with my 2024 MachE Premium. When I start the car, Carplay connects, and I see and can navigate on the touchscreen; however, there is no volume. I see the progress bar moving as if it is playing, but nothing. To remedy the problem, I have to wait till I am stopped. Turn off the power. Open the door. Then start the car again. I have reinstalled my phone. My phone and car software are up to date. Does anyone else have this problem?
Yes. Frequent occurrence!

Seems to occur if I get out but don’t lock car, like when I get something out boot, froot or fetch something from house without locking car.

That is what I have been doing, didn’t help today.

I rebooted the phone, didn’t help. CarPlay connected but still no sound.

I rebooted sync, now the phone wouldn’t even connect wirelessly to CarPlay.

Finally had to plug it in using a cable and CarPlay connected.

Unplugged and lost CarPlay again but this time it did connect wirelessly and I had sound.

It has not been this painful in a while.
I find that pressing Stop button even whilst just still sitting in car, open & close door, press Start button and we’re back in business?

I used to do a SYNC reset, and that usually fixed it, but then I had discovered, as others have mentioned, that switching to the radio, and then back again seems to fix it every time for me, and it's much faster than the SYNC reset.

It actually hasn't happened to me in a while, like maybe 3 months <knock on wood>. Another thing that I have noticed is that it seems to happen more often when the car has only been off for a few minutes. Like when I go to into a store. The music will be playing fine when I get to the store, then I turn the car off, run in to grab something, and come out and turn the car on maybe 3 minutes after I shut it off, and then no audio. It might be coincidental, but I would say probably 70% of my problems with the audio has been from events like that...

This is happening at least daily for me, sometimes several times. Really annoying.

I have found that it happens when I quickly put in drive after turning the car on. If I wait a few seconds, before drive or reverse, it never happens. I had someone with a Bronco complain to me about it and Ford told him the problem was with SYNC and it seems to apply to the Mach-e.
I have found the same to be true. If I pause before moving, it typically connects. The only issue I have is the impatient drivers waiting for my spot while I wait to hear music.

Frequent occurrence for me too and appears to be more of an Apple Play issue. I just go to from my iPhone. General > Car Play > Select Vehicle under My Car and cycle off then back on the car play feature. Repairs it pretty quick when it does happen.

It’s not just a CarPlay issue. I have had this happen multiple times in my 2024 when using CarPlay or when using the car’s built-in SiriusXM app. Sometimes switching inputs solves it. Sometimes a simple reboot of Sync solves it. Sometimes it takes a few Sync reboots to solve it. I cannot recall this happening in my 2021, but I also can’t say it didn’t happen in that car. ??

There are a few threads about this. You don't have to turn off the car. You can restart Sync while driving or turn the wifi off on your phone then back on. As far as why it is doing it? I have no idea but neither of my '21's did this but my '24 does and so does three other friends I know that have '24's. Hopefully there will be an update from Ford to fix this but not going to hold my breath.
My 23 does this maybe a few times a month. Clicking WiFi on and off on the iPhone solves it.

Yes, this happens to me frequently at home. My workaround is to turn the Wi-Fi off and then back on on my iPhone's systems services screen. The phone then reconnects, and all is well. I haven't tried turning the radio on and off yet.

I think the only real solution to this is to disable wireless Carplay and use a wired connection. The added extra few seconds it takes me each time I get in the car to plug in is more than offset by the waiting at least twice that long for the wireless connection before shifting into R, plus still needing to futz with it every 5 or 10 starts.
