In most cases, the ceramic doesn't add visible gloss to the finish. If anything, it's the final polish that the installer did before putting on the coating. And you should notice a big difference in how the dirt and other crud doesn't stick to the coating.

This.

Two plus years with CeramicPro on my MME. Given our ultra high uv light here, I’d be looking at at least 12 wax jobs in that time, probably more. Paint still looks like new. Well worth the cost and minimal effort in upkeep.

At $27 a bottle I ceramic it now and have dropped the wax. It lasted about 1.5 years; just did it again this spring. I would say annually would be best. Paint looks brand new still with a few small stone chips showing up. Takes a day to clay and get the first coat on and then half a day for the second coat. Cheap and like it now over wax. I think it maybe the refraction of the coating that gives it that wet look and makes it shine.

It makes a difference, for a while, but whether it is “worth it” is quite subjective. For me, it is quite expensive for the minimal value received. If there was an easy and inexpensive DIY option, that would change my mind, but I’m not aware of one.

By contrast adding the partial front PPF cost about the same as was DEF worth it. Way better use of money in my opinion.

I had frontal PPF and full ceramic coating done on my Mach E and Escape PHEV and feel it is well worth the money. But with a limited budget I would recommend PPF and DIY ceramic coating. Beware tho, that in order to achieve the best results and depending on the condition of your paint, you will need to clay bar the car and may need to do some paint correction(polishing) before applying the ceramic coating.

100%, especially if you have a less finicky color where the main concern is paint chips. I am very happy with the partial PPF job on the hood, fenders and mirrors plus b-pillar and wheelhouse mouldings. I wish I had the piano black roof pieces done too.

I'd argue there are quite a number of inexpensive and relatively easy DIY coating options out. It's just a matter of having the time and patience to do it yourself.

And if an sio2 coating is a bit too intimidating there are other very durable alternatives like Meguiars Hybrid Coat or Gyeon Can Coat which will last at least a solid year.

Ceramic coating is definitely worth it as DIY. I do not recommend getting it done by a professional at the cost of $1K even though it lasts longer. You also need PH neutral soap and microfiber hand wash to avoid stripping the coating and scratching the clear coat. The ceramic coating itself is very easy to apply, takes 1-2 hours. The machine polishing takes more times. But if your paint is good, you don't need to polish. Currently I am using Adams advanced graphene coating. $110 per bottle that can apply up to 3 cars. About $40 dollar per coat. I apply annually. Makes maintenance much easier and protects the surface.

I am unhappy to report that although you can’t tell the difference in the photos I can confirm that it was a total waste of money. After a week or so my car looked exactly the same as it did before I did i
The ceramic coating is not supposed to keep it perpetually glossy, you will still need to clean it when it rains and every so often depending on how windy and dusty it is. The purpose of a ceramic coat is to give your paint protection. I.E. bug build up -you wont have to worry as much about bugs on the front eating away your paint , its also easier to clean the bugs off. Rain corrosion- the ceramic protects the paint from corrosion from harsh rain. paint chipping- the ceramic coating is a hard coat that is put on in layers allowed to cure then polished, this allows it to protect the paint from chipping easily.

you will need to get it touched up or reapplied every year to 2 years, a carwash that uses brushes will wear it away faster, a touchless car wash will not effect it as much, but washing buy hand will keep it in top condition. there are also soaps you can get to partner with your ceramic to keep it shiny and help the ceramic stay longer.

My husband and I apply Ceramic to all of our vehicles when its first applied you can tell a difference in how shiny it is and how smooth it feels(Its basically a new coat on top of your paint) once it rains or driven for a few weeks it is dirty and less shiny but when you wash it you will find all the dirt and grime will roll right off and it will look good as new. WE do have very harsh rain here and can make the cars look filthy, I can tell the difference between which cars have aceramic coat and which don't. the ones with ceramic cats have less grime on them compared to one that has never had a ceramic coat applied.

I hope this helps and feel free to reach out with any questions you may have on how to care for the ceramic coat

next time you do it you may try using 99% Isopropyl Alcohol after the wash and before the ceramic coat. The Alcohol dry's fast and will help get rid of any left over impurities before the ceramic is applied. you just use a micro fiber cloth to go over it.

Link $15 US and a bit of elbow grease. Bet you can not tell the difference in finished product from others labor but may be a bit on duration. Of course prep is always most of the job. I clay bar the whole car prior to first coat.

See, I would be inclined to do this, but then other people say “well, you really need to do paint correction first” or “gotta use a clay bar” or “it only takes about a day and a half.” None of that sounds easy or quick to me.
