In the last few weeks, post OTA and FDRS updates, I have been getting a charge fault error on my MME. I plug the car in when I get home but my Grizzl-E L2 charger is not configured to start charging until 8:30 pm when the electrical rates drop. I normally get a message from PAK that the charger has not started when I first plug the car in, which I know is normal. I have the car configured to start charging when I plug in a charging cord. In the past the car starts to charge at 8:30 pm, as scheduled, without issues. As of late, I get a fault and the charing stops. At first I thought this was a one off situation, but I have been getting more and more faults. If I unplug the charger from the car and then plug it back in, it usually starts charging. Maybe have to do it twice, but it starts charging until it reaches the preset. The other day I got a charge fault error in the late morning, well after the car was fully (80%) charged. Not sure about this error. I am not seeing any kind of error from the charger.

Has anyone else been experiencing the same issue? I am trying to find out if this is a new issue as a result of the software update or just my car. I am open to any troubleshooting suggestions.

I think step one will be to see if it starts and stops or does not even start. Step two will be to set up my car to charge at 8:30 pm and have the charger turn on when plugged into the car. Try another means to the same end, to see if this changes anything.

I have a theory - Make sure you plug the J1772 in fully so it clicks. If you don't it may generate a charge fault. Does the connector seem too tight?

I'm seeing the same. I have a new 22 model, just took delivery a few weeks ago. I've seen 3-4 of these faults already. Same behavior... if I unplug / plug back in a few times it usually starts working. But this is frustrating. Took into the dealer the first time it happened and they couldn't find the issue and told me to keep an eye on it (they did see the fault in the logs). At some point I'll get it back into the dealer, but they are scheduling 3 weeks out.

Just happened to me for the first time, after receiving the latest CSP Heater update. It may or may not be related. Any suggestions are appreciated. I'm about 80 miles from my dealer. Right now I have 56 miles range. :)

I unfortunately cannot help since mine works sometimes and other not.

Ford reached out to me to get my information and to open a ticket. I just got a email form Ford's BEV team. They told me "Thank you for reaching out to Ford with your charging issue. Unfortunately with the non-Ford charge station, there is no trouble shooting we can offer. Please contact customer service for the charge station. Again my apologies. Have a great rest of your day."

I am going to reply back to them since I feel that they did not even attempt to give me any suggestions to try to determine if it is the car or the charger.

That’s just bad customer service. ? You might try lowering the amps on your Grizzl-E L2 charger (if you can) and see if you keep getting the error. Also, try using the charger that came with the Mach-E and see what happens.

Keep us posted.

Thanks. Now that is the power of this forum. Two great suggestions and we are amateurs. Why can't Ford provide such basic tips?

Sorry you had issues. I was about to try the charger that came with my car as well, but after I got in the car, turned it on and off, went through the settings (didn't change anything) and plugged it in again, it worked. I have the Ford charger, though.....fyi.

You have a P0D80 code your history which means the EVSE is not sending AC power when the car is requesting it by closing the S2 switch. This is expected based on your description of your setup in the first post. However this will set a charge fault and prevent further charging until the plug is reconnected during a time the Grizzl-E allows charging and will send AC power. The Mach-E will always "test the power" immediately after plugging in and it's important to let it do this so no charge faults are set.

Seems like the problem is with the Grizzl-E programming, they did something incorrectly. If charging isn't allowed then it should shut off the 12V pilot signal rather than preventing the contactor from closing when the car requests power. See if there is a firmware update for the Grizzl-E, otherwise contact United Chargers tech support.

Also make sure you are plugging in the J1772 all the way, see this for why.

As a workaround, set the Grizzl-E to provide power all the time and set the charging schedule in the Mach-E instead.

Thank you for using Mach-Lee® technical support.

Dear Mach-Lee Support… ?

When I have my Ford Connected Charger at max 48 amps, I get an amber ring charging error after a few minutes of charging. When I lower the EVSE down to around 32 amps, it charges fine. Charges fine on the road in the wild using EA. The forum told me it’s an error with a module in the Mach E, but Ford looks at me like a deer in the headlights. Would you be able to find me any hidden errors like you did for William?

If so, would I have to reset the Ford EVSE to 48 amps and recreate the error, or would it still show up in some sort of log?

Thanks!

Yeah I'd need to know about when the error occurred, otherwise bump it up to 48A so it happens again, drive the car around for 5+ minutes, and send me your VIN. Port overheating would be my guess but we can see.
