I'm unable to figure out a charging challenge. When I plugged in today at 5pm I noticed it started to charge right away. I have my home setup with a 'Preferred Charge Time" from 12am-8am. 'Max charge' is set to 90%. I have the Ford connected charger and its set to 24A. These settings are designed to charge when its cooler and not to cause my garage to sound like a jet engine.

Why is it charging now? Does the the 'Max charge" take precedence over "Preferred Charge Time"? Doesn't sound like it should. Thank you.

What SOC are you starting at? My first guess is that the car can't get from where you are to 90% during your preferred time, so it started early.

This. Currently the car prioritizes soc desired and not the time restrictions. I have to do mine manually when it’s below where it can reasonably charge to my desired SOC within the times I have set.

Thanks. I was at 26%. So Max Charge is not just the maximum ceiling but a must charge to level before the end of a schedule. I don't like that. I don't even have a departure time set. Kind of misleading, they need another setting to charge within the time scheduled no matter what the outcome is. :)

I need to charge mid day only as that’s when our solar system is at max power and the house batteries are full. What I generally do if the car is low or I get the off schedule warning at car shutdown is to manually stop the charge at 4 or 5 pm, then have it resume schedule the next day. Obviously this is a heck of a lot more convenient at 4 pm than midnight so …

I’m not sure how this works. But how it should work is that charging window takes precedence. The max charge limit is supposed to be just that - a max charge limit. Setting a limit is different than a directive to charge all the way to that limit, even if you go outside the charge window. I’ll study this.

A smart EVSE like the OpenEVSE can limit times that it connects to the car. But yea, sounds like Ford doesn't have that implemented in the car.
