Interesting article about chargeway app and how it shows pricing. Didn't quite think it would be better than plug share in that sense.

But playing with it I found that the interface is pretty clean, easy to change up your search to avoid level 2 Chargers and add your adapter.

A subscription based "Plus" version has a way to estimate expected charge time based on your vehicle SOC, charge goal (80-100% in settings), and output at specific charger.

Plus will also give you "real time" pricing, even though the free version still shows prices at specific chargers by time of day.

Obviously if it integrated with our car and would turn on preconditioning when you were navigating to a charger it would be interesting, but I'll stick to Google maps.

But this is a good sitting on the couch checking charging sites nearby, or planning tool. Maybe on a trip you could pull it out as backup.

It looks like you have to pay $6/month to get prices. Not very cost effective if you only charge away from home 1 or 2 times a month. You can get the same info free other places.

Electricify America gives a discount for $7 a month, not sure I'm gonna pay $6 for "real time" pricing and some other calculations but no discount. Even road trips I'm going to pay what I pay since I'm mostly likely on vacation.

All of these subscription and app prices add up especially if you don't get vacations and charge predominately at home.

Yeah for what it's worth if you're already charging at home you might only pay for one month of Electrify America and Tesla for a serious road trip. Otherwise it's cutting into my Hulu/Netflix whatever budget.

I use Chargeway (free) extensively on trips. To me, the benefits are:
1) It filters chargers by speed. You can choose to only see chargers that will charge your EV at its full speed if you so desire.
2) It has a feature that shows nearby amenities such as stores and restaurants, including how many feet they are from the charging station.
3) It shows how many chargers are available or currently in use. Yeah, you can get this from various charging apps, but they’re all here in one place.
4) It knows which AC and DC adapters you have and whether they work at each station. It won’t show you a Tesla V2 Supercharger where your adapter doesn’t work.
5) It seems to be very up-to-date.

These are just my opinions as a user of the app. As far as current pricing, they just started providing that info, and it is going to be spotty, depending on which companies are sharing that info with Chargeway.

I’m doing the 30 day free trial to test it on a one stop trip to Pittsburgh from DC.

What questions do you have?
Anything that you want me to test?

Is that linked to your vehicle for real time charge data?

Edit: I see that the plus version can link to our vehicle

Yes. I signed into my ford account and now it’s reading data. I can also adjust my target charge and stop and start charging.

I can also plan a trip. It asks me for departure state of charge, temperature and my expected speed.

If I hit continue, it plans the trip. I will see if it is like ABRP with OBD, but I like that there’s no OBD dongle here. Can it update as I drive, or is this just a route planning tool like free ABRP

Yes, ABRP has more options. I can’t add weight or a roof rack, for example. But I’m excited to test it out.

Maybe run Google Maps side by side if you're on Android Auto.

I thought ABRP had a version - still paid-that runs as best it can , without the obcd attachment

It did, but Ford blocked access to the API. At least that’s what I saw on the intertubes.

Interesting, I believe Chargeway uses the Smartcar API, which Ford loves to block due to being non-compliant with their privacy policies.

You’ll have to let us know if your Ford account gets locked or not in a few days.
