I am in the process of purchasing an AWD Select Mustang MACH E but haven't been able to get clarification on the charging capability. I have a DC fast charger in my local area that is capable of doing over 150 KW DC charge capability but noticed the sticker on the 2021 Mach E select states up to 115 KW DC charge capability. The other Mach E on the lot is a 2021 Premium with the extended battery but the sticker doesn't indicate the charge capability up to 150 KW DC. Has anyone tried charging a 2021 Select to 80% and is it at the 34 minutes advertised speed or is that for the Extended Battery models (Premium, GT, California)? I also understand that Ford has made many updates to extend the range of the cars and possibly and adapter to get to the 150 KW DC. The advertised range on the Select is 211 miles. This is all very confusing.

DCFC on a standard range battery has a max of 115kw advertised.
DCFC on a extended range battery has a max of 150kw advertised.

Ford advertises a 10%-80% charge takes 45 minutes. (not sure if they advertise a different time on a standard range battery, don't remember seeing that)

The car can actually take a little more than that, as I've seen up to 165kw on an extended range. There possibly could be some improvement in that, but so far nothing from Ford about raising that speed, except for the update to allow faster speed after 80%. Before the update, at 80% the car would drop to 12kw. Now it drops to 45kw.

What is the impact on your monthly electricity bill assuming you are using the supplied home charger that gets 20miles of range per hour? Do you know if Ford has extended the advertised range on the standard 2021 Mach E over the 211 mile range? Thanks for all your help.

The impact on your electric bill will depend on how much you drive and how much you charge at home.

I charge at home 90% of the time. My electricty costs $0.10/kwh. If I charged from 0%-100% on the extended range battery thats 88kwh useable. I'd probably see 95kwh or so used which means it would cost $9.50 for a complete charge.

I hardly ever fully charge, so my daily cost is much lower. Here is a graph of my costs reported by my chargepoint from the last year.

My last 3 months have been higher by a little because my brother has been fully charging his Bolt once a week at my house.

I really appreciate all your help. I think I will buy the car. Last question. Are you using a second party home charger like below that has 48amp?

Amazon.com: Emporia Smart Level 2 EV Charger | Upto 48 Amp | WiFi Enabled Electric Vehicle Charger | NEMA 14-50 or Hardwired | Indoor/Outdoor Charging Station | 24-Ft Cable : Automotive
Yes. I have the ChargePoint Home Flex.

If you hardwire it, instead of going the plug-in, you can get the full 48amp, which is the max the car can accept on Level 2.

If you stick with the plug-in, you are limited to a 50amp circuit, which will limit your charging output to 40amp. Won't make a big differece in speed, but it is something to note.

Ford did extend the range a bit but only by increasing the amount of usable battery capacity. There is a certain amount of battery capacity that is reserved. It was not that much - maybe about 3% if I recall correctly.

Hardwired? Meaning it is wired directly to the circuit breaker without installing the 250v plug to the wall of the garage?

Yes, Instead of a Nema 14-50 Plug you would run a line directly from the breaker, to inside the EVSE, no plug at all.

I have that 'charger'. Do you really need a 48A one compared to a 32A one that comes with the car already? There are no tax credits for purchasing and installing a 'charger' this year.

They haven't extended the range of the 2021s yet. No one really knows if they are going to. The range was extended for the 2022s but they also raised the sticker price.

Doesn't it take much longer to charge at 32A? 15hrs compared to 8 hrs with the 48a plus less electricity? Thanks for all the information.
