I have a AWD ER Premium. I dont really have to drive a lot lately so when fully charged I get to about 30 percent by the end of the week. SO my plan has been to charge it on the weekend once a week. Which I have been doing. I just wonder if it is better to plug the car in every night wheter I use it or not and keep it at 90 percent all the time or is the way I am doing it OK also. The goal it to have the batteries last as I plan to keep this car for 6-7 years.

Keep these points in mind:
  • Your battery pack is warranted for 8 years.
  • During extreme weather (hot or cold), it's better to leave your car plugged in (guessing there isn't much of that in Brentwood).
  • Ford recommends not charging past 90% (which you are already doing).
  • Having the car charged every day helps if you have frequent extended power outages.
  • If you're going to be away for a while (30 days or more), Ford recommends discharging the car to about 50%, setting maximum charge to 50% and leave it plugged in.
Otherwise do whatever you feel is right.

Makes little difference other than your driving patterns. If you don't charge every night, and you suddenly realize you need to more range the next morning you will be short.

I'm in the same situation as you and could charge once a week. I still plug it in most nights except when there is too much junk in the garage to pull it in. I like having the option of range if I need it unexpectedly. That means most nights I'm charging for less than 2 hours.

The classic wisdom to keep a lithium ion battery its healthiest long term is not to let it drop below 20% charged nor keep it above 80% charged. With that said, Ford has an 11% buffer so that when the car says it is 90% charged the battery is actually only 80% to 85% charged.

Should be fine. Less frequent charges from 30-90% are probably not going to have any different impact on your battery life than more frequent charging. If it were me, I'd probably charge once mid-week. We normally charge when we get to less than 50% on our Leaf but it only has a 100 mile range. So far, I normally charge the Mach E when battery gets hits 40-50% unless I have a plan to drive somewhere farther away.

Kinda what I am doing as I don't drive more than 10-20 miles in a given day. Friday night is full charge and again Sat night and maybe Sun night for the week ( full charge is 90% )
