Ahh well the MME then is limited to 450A it appears - even with the signet chargers. If it would accept the full 500A we would have a theoretical max of 190kW but honestly no way it would be at those speeds at 80% SoC anyways.The EA Signet chargers provide 500A, it is the ABB chargers that are limited to lower values.
At sub 80kW the temperatures are easy to manage in the pack. It's that super high current charging that really heats it up. There just isn't enough thermal transfer in the pack to do it for long - though I think it can go longer than they're allowing currently.With the ID.4, it sounded like a leaf blower on full blast when it started DC charging. It actively tries to keep the battery temps below 33C according to the research article that put an ID.3 and Model 3 on a dunk and measured discharge rates and battery temps. I didn’t hear my Mach-E trigger the same fans but it also was only charging around 73 kW. My Tesla Model Y was also silent during charging,
EV6 and Ioniq 5 actually start at 3C charging. I saw Bjorn’s video with rates 230 kW - something like 740v at 300A.
The issue just comes down to the current. 300A is significantly less heat going into the pack than 450A.
