I have a ChargePoint 50A unit that delivers a full 48A to my MME, and, yes, the battery cooling system is very audible when it is deep into its nightly charge. Like many others in this thread, it doesn’t bother me in the slightest, as I can’t hear it in the house. I doubt it’s the Ford wall charger, as any other EVSE that delivers all 48 amps is going to cause the cooling system to kick in.

Mine does tend to sound like a jet engine taking off during the pre-conditioning routine prior to my pre-set departure time. I don't think your charger has anything to do with it.

Has it been warm in your area when charging? High temperatures combined with a higher amperage charge can trigger than fans. Try what @SnBGC suggested. My bet is that will quiet things down. Then in the fall when temperatures moderate you can try the higher amp charging again if you like.

Good luck. :)

My Mach e sounds like there is a gas powered lawn mower in my garage when charging on my Ford Connected Charger. Like I could here it upstairs when I was trying to sleep. I just had it installed yesterday. I live in Florida and it was 90 degrees out yesterday and the garage was hot. There was only a low humming noise when it was plugged into the 120 V plug using the provided charger. I did notice today on the Ford Pass app there is a setting that says Max Current Charge with a bar that I can move to a lower amp. I may try that and see if it helps, but I bought the 48 Amp unit as I wanted to be able to charge faster.

As everyone has said, the sound is being made by your car, not by the Ford Connected Charge Station. All EVSEs are relatively silent (it’s POSSIBLE that you might hear a faint hum from some). The car has various pumps and fans it runs to keep the battery pack at optimal temperatures during charging. It’s not at all like your phone or laptop ?

It was 60° at my house today… finally. When I plugged in my active shutters opened and the battery cooling system started. First time I’ve heard it. I was only charging at 32 amps so I can imagine it really ramps up at faster charge and a warmer environment.

I never said the noise was being made by my charger. I said "My Mach e sounds like a gas powered lawn mower". My point was that the mach e was much louder when charging with the Ford Connected Charger on 48 amp vs the one provided that was plugged into a 120 volt plug and in the app there is a slider bar where you can lower the amps so that might help.

I did not realize the Ford charging station was scalable like that. Certainly a cool feature. Thank You for sharing.

Got it. Yep, you can lower the current draw in the app. An advantage of the Ford Connected Charge Station - its integrated.

Your connected charging station, delivering 48a at 240v, is delivering 8 times as much power as the mobile charger can at 120v. That creates the potential for a lot more heat to be generated.

also, I was unaware that the Connected charging station was capable of throttling power delivery. That is very cool to know.

I had the same thought. My fan also is pretty loud while charging, but I have always charged at the full 48A. Please let me know how the results of your experiment. I will no need to charge for couple of days so I cannot try it today.

So. Today I set the Ford Charging station to 30 Amps as I am not in a hurry to charge. It has been charging for an hour with NO fan noise. I share a driveway with my neighbor and although he does not complain about the noise I will continue to charge at 30 Amps in the future, unless I am in a hurry, and the battery is really low.

check out this https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/evse-48a-hardwired-vs-40a-plug-in.4416/ and other threads- use search tab above.
Battery conditioning uses minimal amounts of energy compared to charging. But I keep my EVs plugged in in colder weather( I have my EVs in a garage, so not critical). My theory is not to use the EV battery for this.
The conditioning is not continual. It is periodic as needed. And you have to listen hard and close ( unless you are a 5 year old male with that excellent hearing [those were the days!]) to even hear it.
Unfortunately not everyone has a garage, but if you do have one, you should consider making a place for your MME in it during the cold and hot of it.
Range (currently) will always be affect by temperature. Cold weather affects range (negatively) more. Electrons prefer to be comfortable. Recall your science lessons about temperature and molecule movement. Warmer, not hot, weather will see longer ranges. My Bolt has ranges of 270+ in summer and around 238 in winter.
Where oh where did all the super conductivity scientists go?

The charger in the MME should charge faster (than my Bolt with a smaller charger, and the Bolt does fine). Remembering the charger is in the car, the EVSE is just what it says Electric Vehicle SUPPLY EQUIPMENT

I have a A new MME (Today) and I already had a 50amp Juice Box setup. After a day of driving in 100+ temp I parked my MME in the garage and plugged in to recharge. The car vents opened and the car fans came on, high and loud. Still going on hours later. I admit kinda scared me when they came on. Wasn't expecting it.
