I have a 2021 Mach E Premium AWD SR that I was lucky enough to stumble into at a dealer last summer (built in April 2021, delivered in July). Love the car, but one of the things that surprised me was how much noise the car makes when charged, regardless of L1, L2, or DC Fast Charge. Under all of those circumstances, I had the somewhat high pitched, surprisingly audible humming sound coming from the car when plugged in. Having owned a different EV as well as PHEV, it was pretty surprising from the first day I brought it home.
Got my car back last week from the dealership after they did the recall service for re-gluing the moonroof and windshield (in and of itself a little alarming), and getting it back after all of the dealer installed software updates, I've noticed two differences: (1) I definitely now have much faster DC fast charging after the 80% threshold, and (2) NO MORE HUMMING NOISE WHILE CHARGING! Woo hoo!
Good to see that this was an adjustment that could be made by software update. But it is very weird to me that the OTA updates seem to be so different than what the dealer can install through their hardwired forced update. I was "up to date" with all of the OTA action. To me, reconciling this difference is a huge area that Ford needs to focus on ASAP. The difference between OTA "updated" and Dealer hardwire "updated" makes absolutely no sense.
