I have a 22 AWD Select. I was out for a short drive and all of a sudden a ton of warning messages came up, the brakes became very stiff, and I had to apply a lot of force to use them and even then it took a long distance to stop. Luckily I was very close to home and made it to the driveway. I tried letting the car sit but still see the following errors/warnings in order (and on repeat)

- Check Brake System
- Hill Start Assist Not Available
- Pre Collision Assist Not Available
- Service AdvanceTrac

I’m getting it towed to the dealer shortly. Just wondering if anyone has seen something similar. Searched the forums and did a Google search but not seeing the exact issue anywhere else.

In rare cases this can be a software glitch, otherwise it sounds more likely that the ABS power unit failed if the issue was prolonged. When the power brakes fail, you have to rely on the mechanical override which requires significantly more pedal force. The car will still stop, you might just have to press the pedal with 100 pounds of force.

Thank you! I let the vehicle sit charging for a while and checked now and then. After about three hours, the error codes cleared and braking was restored to its usual performance. I'm going to call the service department and see if it's worth bringing it in for a diagnosis, but at this point it seems to be a software glitch as you mentioned @Mach-Lee. I've had weird error codes come up before and then disappear, but this is the first time the vehicle's operation has been compromised.

I got the same messages today, with the same braking reduction. I'll try charging tonight and see what happens tomorrow.

Coincidentally (or not?) BlueCruise 1.3 was installed last night.

I'm kinda leaning towards phantom messages. I noticed with the DSP update of all things I got a Stop Safely Now error for 3 key cycles (roughly an hour). I'm thinking updates trip some of these live systems and make them think the sky is falling.
Always try a couple key cycles and or let the car rest. They need a brake too ya know. :) But seriously the key cycling thing should be only a couple at max and if the messages come back get the dealer involved.

What is a "key cycle"?

I did not have BlueCruise 1.3 installed yet when it happened to me. It's installing as we speak so I'll be interested to see if this pops up again at some point afterwards. BTW, I called the service department at my dealership and they checked remotely to see if there were any errors being thrown still but they didn't see anything. They told me to wait until it happens again to bring it in.

Looks like the car healed itself overnight...how does that happen?? As I left it last night, every time I powered it up all the error messages popped up. So, I turned it off, locked the car, and plugged it in to the charger.

Then, like magic, it worked OK this morning. Very strange (and kind of spooky, actually).
