Although no children for us, it appears the childproof lock for the rear doors & windows has been engaged, whether by inadvertent depression of button or software malfunction. Rear doors of our 2022 MME Premium only open now from outside. Rear windows also not operational. Have tried to depress the childproof lock button multiple times (but not in quick succession). After reading about similar issue on this forum, tried opening the rear door in quick succession twice. Still won't open.

Anyone experience this? Possible solutions to try? Enlightenment appreciated.

Whoops, missed that you caught the button, it should just be an on/off toggle though, could be something broken with it then.

According to the manual, the little light goes on when you depress the child safety button to engage this feature. You depress the child safety button to turn it off.

Try depressing the button and holding it down for a second in case it’s true on/off toggle switch. That should turn off the light. Of note is that if the light is off, but the child safety features seem to be on, the switch may be broken. Warranty trip to dealer.

Thanks for insights. I just needed to keep button depressed for several seconds. Now off, back doors & windows open. All is well. A bit embarrassed such an easy fix, but fixed it is.

I had the same issue yesterday while transporting rear passengers for the first time since we purchased the vehicle. This one had us stumped, and we just ended up playing chauffeur and getting out and letting the passengers out from the outside.

This morning i tried it by myself in the garage, and successfully locked myself inside the car while I was in the back. I got out by leaning forward and starting the car in the accessory mode, then opening the rear windows from the drivers door and then reaching through the window to operate the push button from the outside.

I should have mentioned that I don't use PAAK, and had the key fob in my pocket.

Got in the front and watched the user's manual on how to operate the doors, but that didn't really help me at all. Then came inside and searched the forums and sawn plenty of threads mentioning the double tap for release (which did not work for me). Finally found this thread that spoke of child locks.

For those who are like me and rarely interact with children, and pretty much never have them as passengers in a car, and since no one mentions it, the child lock button referred to in this thread is on the drivers door armrest, at the upper right corner of mirror control pad (?!?). You can see it in this photo:

If you see an amber light lit in that switch, it is set and the rear doors and windows cannot be operated from the inside. If the amber tell-tale light is dark, you can operate the doors and windows from the inside like any normal human would. Hope this helps some clueless person like myself in the future.

Comes right up as a top hit if you search Child Lock in the manual, or look in the index.

I read this over with amusement. Just wanted to add - as a parent - that this feature is actually really nice. Standard vehicles have a little toggle in the door, itself, to engage the child lock (preventing the door from opening from the inside). I usually help my kids out of the car at school drop-off and give them a hug before they go off on their way, but some days - whether due to weather or time constraints - they go off on their own. It is really nice to be able to temporarily disable the child/window lock for that event and then re-enable it, all without having to leave the driver's seat. Similarly nice to be able to easily disable it with a button if I'm transporting adults.

How often did anyone really flip the toggle on their cars beforehand? Not much - you set it and then didn't touch it again for years. And once my kids are bigger, am I really going to be using this button at all, aside from the times that it's accidentally engaged? Probably not. But for this time in my life, it's a nice feature. Interesting that Ford dedicated an entire button to it (possibly understandable given how the doors operate), but for parents with young children, I'd say it's a selling point and you may find yourself using it more than you realized you would.

Ah, but that's the thing. I hadn't been searching for child locks, as I didn't know about them. Only learned about them when I found this thread. Always helps if you know the search term that addresses the problem you are looking for, but I didn't know it. I just searched for door locks., and got a video for how to use the doors that made no mention of child locks.

Thatā€˜s why it’s a good idea for every owner to read the owner’s manual. Even if you don’t remember every detail, when you run into something like this, it will probably ring a bell.

Huh. Child safety locks have been installed on every vehicle in America since 1985 FYI. Electronic version like we have started around year 2000. I feel like most people have heard of them, used them for their kids, or have been trapped by them before at some point in their lives.

LOL My 1969 Cadillac Coupe de Ville had rear window lock-out (since it's a 2-door, no kid's going to be able to open those big doors from the back seat). Used to always have the rear window controls locked out so that they could only be operated from the driver's console. ??

A valid point. I have done that with every car previous to this one, but since this car was not provided with a hard copy manual, I did not do that this time around, as I was not interested in sitting in it and going through screen after screen. I am aging out of this society and its digital ways. Makes this car a bit of an adventure for me, but I've been enjoying it thus far. These forums have been very helpful, which i appreciate, but there seems to be a lot of unecessary negativity here as well (which, as i understand it, is the norm for such places). That makes me sad.

We purchased a new F-150 Raptor in 2020. I sat in it with the paper manual that came with the truck so that I could see what they were talking about. I was more than willing to do the same with the mme. But … no paper manual. And 100% of my book reading is in an electronic format.

Some things are simply better suited to a physical format. Owners manuals and familiarizing yourself with the vehicle is one. Quick look ups after you have that basic familiarity are better served by an electronic manual. Just my opinion, I’ve been known to be wrong.
