Hey guys.

How do you guys clean and sanitize your car interior after someone else drives your car? For instance, if you needed to take your car to the shop or valet your car. Every since Covid, for my older car that I don't car too much for, I would wipe down with lysol/clorox wipes, but more recently I would spray down the seat leather, radio, steering wheel etc with 70% isopropyl alcohol and wipe down. They didn't leave any noticeable marks or stains. Would you guys know if its safe to consistently (possibly daily) use alcohol for the cleaning? Or should I really be using something else?

Thanks!

I wouldn't use alcohol. I have disinfecting wipes that don't contain bleach, or alcohol.

Why would you wipe down a seat?

And more important, you let a valet drive your car? I have done that maybe 2 or 3 times in my driving life. I use to be a valet in high school...

There are places people go where only valet parking is available. So ...

On a somewhat humorous note about valet parking: I had to go to one of the local high-end resorts in June to pick up some credentials for a triathlon here. I pulled up to the front entrance to the hotel in the Mach-e and stepped out. I asked the valets if they wanted to leave the car upfront (on display) while I went to the credentials office. They were rather enthusiastic. It stayed there for the 20 minutes I was gone without moving. It did garner a bit of a crowd too. I guess the moral of this story is: only bring a car they want to leave up front on display. ;)

Maybe I am a bit OCD with the seat. haha. But I work in the city where it would be impossible to find street parking. So ultimately I would need to park in a parking garage where a car attendant parks my car.

There are non-alcohol products that should suffice for sanitizing. A quick google search will reveal some. Found a blurb from Nissan that might be of use to many of us:

And this page from Consumer Reports.

I'm a big fan of Adams products. I've placed a couple of pics with this of what I use. Cleans and protects interior parts. I use it regularly.

The risk of surface transmission of COVID-19 is minimal. the SARS-CoV-2 virus is transmitted primarily by aerosols. Just drive with your windows open for a few minutes when you get the car back. All the wiping down done in most public establishments is hygiene theater -- a waste of time and resources.

I was gonna say the same. Unless you lick your steering wheel regularly, just chill, wash your hands and move on.

Sure it's minimal. Wiping down that can of baked beans you bought today, probably not needed.

But when Edgar, the mechanic who bites his nails and picks his nose, drives the car and plays with the controls, then Billy the car jockey brings it around, a wipedown seems prudent and certainly harmless.
