I’ve just got BlueCruise and have the option of a 90 day trial. The price listed for one month in my connected services tab is £17.99. That seems too much for the amount of motorway driving that I do but it got me wondering about the cost / value of other services. If you get the lot then they seriously add up!
BlueCruise: £17.99 a month
This is an expensive luxury that I will struggle to justify once my trial is over. Yes, there will be some heavy motorway users who will get better value, and you do get an additional feature for your money.
Ionity Charging Premium: £11:99 a month.
Again this is not all that important for me as my charging is usually at home or my destination. However, I can see value in this for other users.
Ford Premium Connectivity: £4.99 a month.
I cannot see value in this for anyone; does anyone here use it? My phone has a data plan, as does my wife’s, and we can both activate a hotspot for the kids device. What does this feature add that my phone doesn’t?
Ford Secure: £5.99 a month.
The location of my car is already known and traceable in FordPass so what extra feature does this add? If it makes it harder for location sharing / sync to be unpaired with FordPass then, if Ford cared about security, surely this should be standard. Apple and Google have activation locks to make theft less desirable, why is the car industry not doing the same?
Connected Nav: $80 (can’t see UK price as already subscribed).
While this is required if you use the inbuilt Nav, I imagine most folk use CarPlay/ AndroidAuto. Does BlueCruise also apply its own updates to ensure correct operation?
It is a significant outlay for all of the above, but Ford is still better than BMW with regards to the subscription model. What are your views on each of these and do you consider them value?
