I have a '23 Mach E CR1 and I find myself leaving at unplanned times for various errands. It is cold in Michigan and preconditioning is difficult to plan for. Is it a bad idea to set my departure times in the app to precondition every hour 24 times. I'll have it plugged most of the time. That way I'll always have the battery preconditioned when I need it. Will this depreciate the battery life?
I'm the same and have random departures. I use one departure schedule time and continuously edit it for the next day and time. If you can do that an hour or so before you leave this is all you need and you can save electricity and money.

I think the key for new owners to keep in mind is that it's not necessary to precondition (and generally a waste of time and electricity) unless you need maximum range that day.

If you're going on a long trip and need to maximize range, set a departure time. Otherwise, if you just want the car to be at a comfortable cabin temperature when you get in, just tap the climate control button a few minutes before you plan to leave.

More about the performance of the vehicle for me than the cabin but each his own. A short commute here is 50 miles so at -28C I will be preconditioning the batteries. Drive it in -28C when it has just sat for a few days and then when it has preconditioned and you will see the difference. Harder to regen when the batteries are frozen.

That's fair. I think at that ambient temperature the cabin heater might have trouble keeping up without preconditioning, as well.

The ONLY way to precondition the battery are as follows:

1) Set a departure time while plugged into a 240v outlet.
2) Navigate to a DC fast charger.*
