Depends on how you want to do it. Do you drop the battery pack open it up check the cells and only replace those that need replacing or do you do a lazy job and just replace the whole thing so you end paying for all new battery cells along with a case and everything else that is in there even when you don't need it.

If its the latter you are looking at around $38000 the former it would be much cheaper however that approach is going to take longer to spread as you will need more EVs out there so you have more service technicians and 3rd part repairs shops that are more inclined to repair just what is needed, at present there is a path of least resistance approach with EVs :(

Under 8 years or 100,000 miles, $0!
By the time the Mach-e needs new batteries it will be someone else's problem and even then newer technology will have replaced lithium ion batteries with cheaper, longer range, faster charging batteries.
The real challenge now is finding a reliable Ford service department to take care of the Mach-e, it may have taken me four tries, but they are out there. With time that will also improve.

It's also an unknown how much it will cost in 10, 12, 20 years.

That's crazy, because labor is only $1000 (or at least that's what Ford pays to have the HVBJB replace, and that requires dropping and opening up the battery.) So the complete battery unit is $37k. Ouch.

Makes no sense as the MY and M3 batteries are identical, so cost should be the same.
I don’t know. Might be a typo or the author is full of shit.
But the price for the M3 seems right. I looked at how much it would cost to replace my LEAF’s battery, for when it came time to do it. And a refurbed 250 mile one was around that price.

That was just a sampling to give the op that example costs are available on google.

It's near meaningless, because no one is paying for a Mach-E battery for many, many years. The cost THEN would be what matters.

It's meaningless to owners now, except for when insurances companies want to total cars with minimal damage to the battery. Also It provides insight into how much it cost to build each MachE.

It’s possible since Model 3 and Y have different chassis design and battery pack design.

The image of the Model 3 body-in-white featured on Tesla's website shows that the refreshed (Highland) Model 3 has a similar structure to the pre-Highland model. There are no signs of front or rear megacastings and, indeed, no structural battery pack (which is cheaper to produce and being used on Model Y. )

Could you not also keep the old battery, turning it into a home backup system? Similar to what Ford promotes for the F150 Lightning.

I agree with those who say the battery should last 10+ years before the capacity depletes enough that it needs to be replaced. My plan for when that happens is to use the old battery as a home backup system - assuming other options are not more affordable by then.

What Ford parts charges for a part, and what the manufacturer pays for that part, are widely different.

Tesla is always updating their models, many times significantly. I don't think the MY that is coming out of Fremont has the structural battery packs, only the MY that comes from Austin, and of those only the ones with the 4680 cells. The MYP are all coming out of Fremont and they still have the 2170 cells. Which is the same as the M3.
