I have a crack that has started 'walking' and I'm going to need to replace the windshield. I'd like to have it done by the dealer so that I know that I'm getting genuine OEM parts. I'm also concerned that the cameras behind the glass be calibrated properly.

I'm wondering if any of you can offer insights or suggestions on the best way to have this done.

I had my cracked windshield replaced at Safelite. I told them I wanted oem glass and I got a Ford windshield. If there’s a location near you, it might be worth a phone call.

1) Most dealerships don't do glass work.
2) This is covered by your Comprehensive insurance. Contact your insurance company, they will have a recommend glass company.
3) Recalibration is part of the repair, and Safelite does it just fine.

It is covered by comprehensive but if you have a high deductible it may not be worth claiming as you'll pay the whole amount anyway and end up with a claim on your CLUE report.

Prior windshield replacement threads indicate our car is self-calibrating and doesn't need to be calibrated by a technician.

OP let us know what your quote is for OEM glass. I also need to get my windshield replaced but am planning to wait another couple months for winter to end as the crack is in the lower third and not in my way visually.

Just got mine replaced by a local shop that was set up via my insurance (State Farm). They used a genuine Ford replacement and calibrated the camera just fine, by driving it around for a couple of miles. They did the install at my house.

Some states don’t charge deductible on glass repairs

I had mine replaced at Safelite. They offered me the option of an OEM windshield, it just took a few extra days for them to get it. They also calibrated the camera and provided a certifcate of calibration when they were done.

My real world experience....
I had the windshield recall and the new one by a "Ford Installer" was crooked.
I had a stone hit my windshield and State Farm used Safe light who ACTUALLY used spacers and put it in straight.
I go with the company that does more and that was NOT the Ford dealer. I gave up fighting on the crooked windshield.
Dealers suck.

My MME GT windshield cracked on the 3rd day of ownership, State farm paid the dealer (Apple valley Ford in Minnesota) to replace the windshield with OEM Ford glass with the Ford logo, aftermarket does not had the blue oval on the glass.. calibration and glass totalled $1400 that insurance covered, no deductible..

Does there seem to be a high percentage of replacement windshields here, or is it just me.
