The EV Tax Rebate started over 9 years ago. It included plug-in HYBRIDS! Which is why with GM"s Volt sales they exceeded the 200,000 units limit.

Today the IRS recognizes FORD for the tax credit for the Ford Escape Plug-in, the Lightning, the E-Transit Van and MACH-E!

IRS 30D Shows the Approved TAX CREDIT QUALIFYING Vehicles (May 2022)

https://www.irs.gov/businesses/irc-30d-new-qualified-plug-in-electric-drive-motor-vehicle-credit

An important number is 159,588 as of January 01, 2022 for Ford. The IRS does provide a quarterly update that I could find.

A website posted in the past on Machforum is Ford Authority website which shows all of the actual SALES of Ford Vehicles. Not sure how they have FORD internal numbers for monthly sales.

The US sales rates for Mach E: (from Ford Authority)

MUSTANG MACH-EMay 20225,179YTD 202215,718

They do not show a break out of the E-Transits, Escape Plug-in nor the Lightning. So if we assume that the MACH-E in 2022 is the "majority" of qualifying Tax Credit vehicles. Ford YTD "put in service" is above 175,306. That shows that there should be few months left in 2022 to claim the $7500. The unknown big number is run rate of the Lightning. I have assumed the MACH-E with remain around the 5,000+.

Hopefully this will help position the IRS's view. Yes I do recognize that beyond vehicle Number 200,001 there still remains $7500 in that Quarter. Followed by lower Tax Credit amounts in the remaining quarters of that year.

From Fords perspective TODAY the "PROMISE" of the "$7,500 Potential Savings

Maybe a hollow sales/marketing promise! I suspect that the on orders of the Lightning and the Mach-E will push the 200,000 units. Yes I know there is a phase down of the $7500 to @ $3,750 BUT ........................Ford should STOP pushing the "Potential Savings".

On our MACH-E hold on deliveries they have provided very little clarification over the past 2 weeks to the Dealer. (I have driven my Mach-e it got off the truck 2 days after the announcement) My Dealer is very good but she countinues to have no real strong dates to fix!

Is there a question here?

If Ford hits 200,000 in Q3, 100% credit lasts for the rest of 2022. Ford will not hit 200,000 this quarter. It's 100% for the quarter they hit and the next quarter.

Countless posts discuss this.

Okay BUT Ford should temper it's Advertising on their site with what believe to be MISLEADING and therefore dishonest. '
The numbers from the IRS show that's a possibility. Just wonder how many lightnings are on order?

I don't see anything deceitful for dishonest about Ford's advertising right now. Anyone who buys a Mach E or a Lightning would qualify for the full $7,500 today, and will continue to do so for at least the next six months, and that some tax credit will remain available to purchasers through the remainder of 2023. Basically anyone who puts in an order today is going to be able to get at least some credit. In what way is Ford being misleading?

Ford is making less than 20,000 2022 Lightnings.

I think you don’t understand the tax credit phase out period.

Not misleading at all. The keyword is potential.

Based on your post you really do not understand the tax credit and it's phaseout period after the 200,000 total US EV sales are reached.

fellas, do your research here. This has come up several times. The full tax incentive applies for a minimum of 4 months after the threshold is hit, based on quarterly breakdowns. Even if they hit the 200k mark before Oct 1st the $7500 still applies to every car sold before Jan 1 2023

They didn't hit the cap in Q2 so the full $7500 applies AT LEAST until 12/31/22, and AT LEAST $3750 until June 30 2023

What is the deal with used EVs and the new IRA legislation that just passed? Will the used Mach e we just bought be eligible for the used EV tax credit?

No for several reasons. It doesn’t start until 2023, and it only applies to cars bought from dealers for less than $25k (and at least 2 model years old). Pretty conservative income limits apply as well.
