For those of you that have installed a dashcam in your Mach-E, I have been considering the Fitcamx. Anyone here have this unit installed?

I am merely looking for the forward facing camera, and not concerned about having it record when parked. Rather concerned about the 12v battery. Hence, I'd rather just have the front facing.

Also, I live in Georgia, thus, concerned about 'excess' heat. In my ICE GT, I used a Garmin 55. Never had a heating issue.

Thoughts...

Have had the FitcamX front only in my 22 since I got it. Works great. Basic - no GPS, as you mention no parking mode, but if you just want something to record your driving in case of an incident, it does the job well and is basically invisible when installed.

I have the FitcamX in my Lightning - front with rear. No parking mode but I think there is a battery option for that now? Also due to not having power when the vehicle is off, there is no small battery in the unit or capacitor for keeping time. The time/date stamp on the videos is worthless as it's always wrong.

Unfortunately, I had the FitcamX fail. Just stopped working. It was past warranty, but they gave me a discount off a new one. New one has been fine for a couple months now since replacing. I'm still considering options for our new Mach-E. I'm thinking of a Viofo with battery module for parking mode recording and getting the one that records the cabin and view out the rear window vs trying to run a wire to the back with the glass roof and working around airbags. Dongar Tech has an adapter that makes it super easy to connect these cameras, but it's been out of stock for a bit. I've used Dongar adapters in other vehicles, highly recommended.

I had an early FitcamX (front and rear) in my 2021 GT-PE. It worked great. as has been said, it's basic, but that's all I need. My 2024 GT also has a FitcamX (front and rear, also pretty basic) in it. I prefer the older style rear camera to the new one, but it also works fine. Both are hard-wired into the fuse box. ??

I installed the Fitcam X front and rear in my '24. It was pretty easy. If you are just doing the front it should take you less than 10 minutes if you are even a tiny bit handy. You simply: 1) pop off the original cover with the provided tool, 2) replace the clips from your original cover into your Fitcam X cover (a small flat head helps, 3) unplug the small connector for the rain sensor (again a small flat head helps) 4) plug in your connector from the fitcam x to the rain sensor and the rain sensor into the fitcam x harness, and 5)snap the now fitcam x cover on and you are done. There are a ton of youtube videos as well that show you how easy the front cam is to install. Just ignore the parts about the rear cam as the front cam installation is basically the same regardless if you have a rear cam.

FYI, i bought a good 256mb card to maximize my recording time as well as the fact that I don't trust the one that came with it

So far I've had it in since November when I got the car and no problems.

I have the Fitcamx front and rear in my 2023 GTPE. It's hardwired in with the replacement shell at the rearview mirror. It's been very dependable and helped out on several occasions.

The comments are all spot on. I’ve had the FITCAMX in my 21 for quite awhile without issues. As mentioned, be sure to upgrade the card to something more robust.

Yes, I forgot to mention that I foud the MicroSD card that came with my 2021 FitcamX was really slow (my guess is it was a counterfeit Samsung card) and I upgraded it with a same size card. The FitcamX I bought for my 2024 came with a reasonable card so I haven't had to swap that one out. ??

Those of you who own the FITCAMX, did you get the optional polarizer filters?

I did not. I find the quality to be fine without it, but I have a 70% tint on my windshield so that probably helps with glare.

I have it and it helps a bit when it is turned correctly. It was clear without it but is a but clearer with it. I would say if you are trying to save money skip it but if you are using the video for posting online videos or sharing videos with your friends where picture quality is super important get it.

I only use my cam as a defense for insurance and the like and I'm not sure if I would buy it again for the difference in video quality.

I knew to upgrade my card from the FitCamx thread ages ago and the comments you made therein about it. :)
