Will the EA account conflict with the Ford Pass account? Can't I have both on my iPhone ? I have ChargePoint and Plug Share (that may not be a charging program) on it also. With all the problems with the Ford Pass app I just thought it safer to have more choices (and this particular charge station is owned by EA).
If you connect to the charger first, it uses P&C and the bill comes through the FordPass app.
If you initiate from the app, it charges the EA account and the bill comes through there. This uses your Pass+ account if you have one.
If you use a credit card you are "anonymous" and I don't think it can link to an account.

Have you personally tested this? According to this guy, FordPass Plug & Charge is a disaster. It didn’t work and, even when he switched to the EA app he had to uninstall FordPass to keep it from disrupting the charge session.

I’d be interested to know if P&C has actually worked well for others.
No conflict. I have yet to need to uninstall FordPass.

Thanks. I am a member of EA (Pass) but not Pass +. I won't use the commercial chargers very often so I don't want to pay $4 a month.

I’m a little confused. After reading the post linked above, it sounds like you’ve had a generally terrible experience using P&C.

Glad to know you haven’t seen a conflict between P&C and EA App, but I think I’d better have EA ready to go in the likely event that P&C fails. Part of the challenge is that I’ll be doing my first charge less than 2hrs after buying my car and activating all this, and I’m really skeptical the activation will go smoothly. Rule of thumb for MME rollout seems to be the opposite.

Definitely have your EA app ready for that charging session. I'm not sure you can have P&C fully operating within 2 hours. There was a step in the FordPass website that seemed to await a manual confirmation.

I think things will work out once I get my Mach E as far as taking it to my daughter's house. I was worried about the availability of DC fast chargers and at least they're off I-88 in Aurora (halfway there). There were four EA chargers and eight Tesla chargers right next to each other there. The chargers in Sycamore (Aimee's home town) are level 2 AC chargers which is not ideal but better than nothing. I'd just have to plan to wait longer if I should charge there. I have written EA about putting one of their DC chargers in the oasis at the DeKalb exit on I-88 (oasis just past her exit) or the Meijer in her town. They're putting hundreds in each year so hopefully it won't be too long. Yes, that's snow in the pictures; we had a big snow storm a week or so ago and most of that has now melted. Come on spring!!!

Electrify America CCS chargers in Aurora IL halfway to my daughter's house on I-88 in the Meijer's parking lot. My 2016 Fusion Hybrid (which is the car the Mach E will replace) is parked there for picture.

I'm the OP from the thread referenced earlier that detailed my problems with Plug & Charge.

I suspect my problems stem from the fact that I was never able to fully install P&C in the first place (despite several hours on my own and with Ford reps). Since the app never thought I connected, the app gave me no option to turn it off. When I ran into problems, the only way I could turn P&C completely off was logging off FP, deleting my car from ford, and deleting the FP app. It was only once I did all three of these that I could use the EA chargers.

If you are able to fully install P&C then I don't think you will have the same exact issues I did. (You may have others, though...)

Hope that helps.

I received my confirmation of activation for the FordPass Charging Network within minutes of submitting it.

Edit; 2 minutes apart.

UPDATE: A representative from Electrify America just called me because I entered a suggestion on their web site that they needed to put a DC fast charger either on the Peace Road (I-88 exit) in Sycamore at the new Meijer store or the DeKalb Oasis just beyond Peace Road exit on I-88 that would serve both directions of traffic. The alternative to that is to put it at a Walmart or Target in DeKalb which is the sister city to Sycamore and also services Northern Illinois University. The closest EA is the one pictured above in Aurora about 45 minutes east. She told me she would pass this suggestion about Peace Road and DeKalb Oasis/city along to their real estate group to look into it! Told me she couldn’t guarantee anything but that they are adding hundreds of DC chargers every year. I told her there were NO DC chargers in northern Illinois around that area and they needed some for EV vehicles using the tollway as the nation transitions to electric.

P&C failed for me the first time I tried it. I moved to the next charger over and it also failed. I phoned ElectrifyAmerica and the rep (very nice) reset the station and it failed again. So she pushed an authorization through to give me a free charge session (that was really nice).

But then she told me that to get the charge to initiate, all the doors on the car should be closed, but NOT LOCKED.

According to her info, if the doors are locked the car wont authorize a P&C. I suppose that might make sense as it could prevent someone from coming up to a car and just plugging it in when you aren't around ... and you end up paying the bill plus any idle-time penalties for not unplugging at the end of the charge. With the doors unlocked, it assumes you are probably at your car and know that it is being connected to the charger.

The reason I mention that is because this particular EA station had the charger at the front of the car ... not the side. So when I walked around to the front to grab the charge handle, the car would lock and the horn would chirp. So now I'm thinking that may be why the P&C was failing.

Next time I may just leave the phone in the car (it was in my pocket) and try it.

In FordPass app, go into: Vehicle -> Manage EV -> Fordpass Charing Network -> Plug & Charge and make sure P&C is turned on and shows Electrify America (and it will also probably show you Greenlots).

I'm told NOT ALL stations support P&C (newest stations do).

If P&C isn't supported (or doesn't work) you can still initiate through FordPass by viewing charging locations (on the map), pick your location, it will have you pick the specific charger, and then you can start (authorize) the charge via the app. This is how I initiated a charge at a Greenlots location that didn't support P&C.

Also, while you can use FordPass (linked to your credit car) to pay for charging at any of the stations in the FordPass charging network, if you want to use your 250kW free charging credit, those credits are only good at ElectrifyAmerica locations.

EA only builds 1 station per location as CCS + CHAdeMO, the rest have two CCS handles. As a good EV citizen, please only use the CCS handle at the station with the CHAdeMO handle as a last resort.
Good point on station selection. At charging locations that offer an array of charge stations, often just ONE of them has a CHAdeMO plug and the rest are CCS-only.

P&C worked for me this past weekend in Cincinnati area. First EV vehicle and the first DC charge for me. Worked like a dream and made me love my Mach E even more.

I will not use it much as there are no DC charging stations anywhere near me.
