My Missus has driven my GT PE a few times now. But, today, for the first time, she asked, "Why does it say READY"?
I just said because it is ready to be driven.

So, now, I come to you lot, why does it even have "READY" on the display (behind the steering wheel)?

Maybe because it is really is ready to be driven? I would be more worried if it said Not Ready.

It’s so you know the car is “on” and ready to go.

There is no engine sound. That is the replacement for it, so you know it’s not in accessory mode.
I can’t count the times I thought my LEAF was ready and it didn’t actually go anywhere when I hit the throttle. Looked down and the ready light wasn’t on.

EVs are required to have a green ready indicator to indicate the vehicle is switched on and ready to move. This lets the vehicle operator know that it could move if they shift into gear. It’s required since there is no engine sound to indicate the vehicle is running.

Would you prefer fake engine noises and built-in vibrators?

My hybrid Cmax also had a “ready” and presumably for the same reason, quiet or not, they are ready to drive.
