My front passenger door check has started clicking and needs to be replaced.

My car is out of warranty and wanted to see the procedure to replace it.

Want to see if it's something I can do, or if I'm going to have to take it to the dealer.

Thanks in advance!

A mechanism used to prevent a car door from swinging open too far.
I see. You probably have to remove the door panel to get to the bolts where it attaches to the door side. I’m guessing there are YouTube videos on taking the door panel off.

How much do you think a dealer would charge?

My driver door check arm got noisy at 40-45K miles. Dealer said it was common (probably history with other Ford models?) It was $92 for the part and $180 to install. I'm not complaining as it has been the only repair to date aside from (free) recalls and recent new tires.

I currently have 56000 miles, it's interesting that it's the passenger side as that door is not used as much as the drivers.

The whole door has to be replaced because the welds crack. That's probably not something you can do. You can lubricate the check, but if it still makes noise at the end of travel then that's cracked welds, pull the door seal back and you can probably see cracks near the spot welds.

Have you tried some lubrication on that part - perhaps silicone spray lubricant?
Yes, but it has a crunchy sound and it started all of a sudden. Lubricant had no effect unfortunately.

Fortunately, it's not that. The noise happens at the points where the check has a detent.

Perhaps cleaning that part to get out possible dirt, then lubricating? Crunchy could be dirt in between the sections of that part.

It is clean, but I'll blow some air into the slot to see if there is some thing in the mechanism.
