I've recently picked up a 2021 MME Premium AWD.

I of course went straight to unbridled mode.
Pushed on the accelerator and noticed that the Hyundai Kona had more take off power 😅

Spoke to the dealer and he said try Engaged mode... Surprised, it actually had more take off power than the Unbridled.

Anyone else have this experience or explanation why?

At full pedal to the metal all mods have the same amount of power.
What the different drive modes do is change the power curve and how stiff the steering is. Whisper you have to push the pedal down more to get the same amount of power and is it mostly back loaded. Unbridle is much more front loaded on power, then engage is somewhere inbeween.

I set the car to unbridle because I like the stiffer steering feel. I can nto stand whispers very floating loose feeling. My wife like engage feeling.

Congrats on your new car. Hope you got a screamin’ deal. Ignore the drive modes they’re totally useless. Just keep it in Engage and have fun.

There is no way that the acceleration in Engage should feel greater than in Unbridle. As others have stated, the available power is the same, it is just the accelerator mapping that changes. But you specifically mention "take off power", which I interpret to mean initial acceleration from stop. If my interpretation is correct, and you're actually experiencing more acceleration in Engage, then I think something may be amiss. What it might be? I've no idea.

Thanks for all the replies. From what I understand, it likely came down to the amount of charge I had and how warm the battery was.
I do like how the 1p breaking is more gentle in engage, but I do quite enjoy the stiffness of unbridled

What is most concerning is a Hyundai Kona beat a Mach off the line. I don't see how that's possible, regardless the drive mode.

I had an electric Kona just prior to my first Mach E (premium 2021) There is no way the Kona had more off-the-line power than the Mach E. I was surprised how much more "power" the Mach E had. Even an almost dead Mach E accelerates better than the Kona.

That makes much more sense.

I personally use Unbridled because it has a lot stronger regenerative braking when you let off the accelerator. I don't particularly like 1P.

For me, drive modes matter more for the regeneration levels than for stiffer steering or accelerator sensitivity. Because I like to roll, I always use Whisper.
