Curious if anyone has installed an e-bike road takeover countermeasure in their Mach-E GT. I’m looking at installing a 125db siren wired to a switch inside the armrest that would only be used when encountering an e-bike road takeover in front of me. I’m having issues finding a place to install the fairly small piezo siren where the siren can be directed forward with minimal hinderances to maximize sound. Yes, I know fitting your vehicle with an aftermarket siren could be a legal issue resulting in a fix-it ticket but the device would only be used when something illegal is happening in front of me and concealed at all times.

At this time I’m leaning towards mounting it near the shutters below the front bumper but I’m not entirely sure when those open while driving and if I could run a relay tied to that switch that would open them. For now, I just keep a 125db air horn within arms reach whenever I encounter these thugs.

Why not just use your horn and left turn signal ? Like when you pass a car. And your brakes if there is oncoming traffic.

Not sure about E-bike riders, but the bicyclists around here tend to get a mob mentality when they’re riding 12 abreast across 2 lanes. They just get mad and give you the finger and will not allow you to pass if you make noise behind them. I have even seen some slow down and vandalize a car that was honking at them. 😰🐩

If they’re too dumb to get out of my Blazer’s way, they certainly are not getting out of the way of a compact SUV. 🤦‍♂️🐩

Funny. I’m guessing you have not come across this yet. They love flipping you off when you use your feeble horn that is barely rated at 90db. I need something to scare the sh!t out of them that they aren’t expecting. For now the 125db air horn does the trick. They scatter like roaches.

I’ve NEVER heard of this. In Pennsylvania, cyclists have to follow all laws when operating on public roads. Sounds like a law enforcement issue?

They are as entitled to be on the road as you are.
I agree. They do have to follow the laws though. Where I live, there are a number of cyclists who view traffic control signs and devices as “optional”, blowing through stop signs and red lights, and not bothering to signal for turns, etc.

Yep. Vehicle Code says how cyclists are supposed to use the road. I once got a ticket for using it incorrectly when I was in Middle School. Even in my town they don’t enforce like that any more. 🤷‍♂️🐩

That is unfortunate. One thing I’ve noticed that really annoys me is the number of kids riding what I used to call “mini-bikes” except electric instead of IC engines, in a park near my house. They ride them on the paths, go extremely fast, and I’m just waiting for an accident involving kid on mini-bike versus elderly person out for a walk (or with a pet on a leash!) the kids look to be between 10 and 12. Way too young for those types of bikes and speeds.

We have a kid that rides an electric minibike on the roads, up on a wheelie. I've notified the Sheriff, and given them dashcam footage. It is illegal, and they want to get him, but are never in the area. They did try one house and that didn't pan out.

Affinity bias.

I see as many drivers who see road rules as optional. I see as many cyclists who would use a bike lane if on offer. I see as many “allegedly” winks towards speed limits here and on you tube.

Might be interesting, but less grumpy-pants-fun to count the number of misbehaviors, normalize it to mass, and see who’s misbehaving with the most dangerous weapon the most often. You can run that experiment at home!

Oh, almost forgot… “those darn kids!!!”

Oh, I agree. I have several friends who are very responsible cyclists, and the horror stories they’ve told me about inconsiderate drivers are incredible.

When I read "countermeasure" I thought it might be some kind of electromagnetic ray that shoots out of the Mach, James Bond style, and fries the e-bike's li-ion battery, incapicitating it. I'll help fund that Kickstarter. I hate those bikes.

They always get out of the way of our Raptor. Always. Performance Blue ftw.
