It wasn't clear from the vid whether the Tesla had an internal frunk emergency release button
Yes, Tesla has an emergency release button in the frunk.

This would be awesome, especially for the weaker ones who aren’t so inclined to lifting a manual hatch to begin with, let alone a heavy hood.

I’ve no problem lifting the hood after using the door keypad, app, or even the lever for that matter, but for some older folks who borrow my vehicle from time to time, the initial weight of lifting the hood is just too much for them, and bending into the footwell is just not good for them when the on screen button is greyed out and the frunk button in FordPass fails. A power frunk with a physical push button that doesn’t grey out after the vehicle is powered off would really make the frunk that much more useful and accessible to those who aren’t accustomed to lifting a hood regularly.

In fact, I’d be more than willing to replace the physical trunk button by the driver’s door for an electronically assisted frunk button, since the trunk already has a very accessible exterior button on the rear, and the frunk has nothing similar on its end.

I’m sure it would do a lot to remove that psychological mental barrier that says ā€œif it ain’t broken, don’t open, there’s nothing but more car under thereā€.

Now on to something simpler that Ford can actually fix with a mere software update: @FordMotorCompany, please allow the frunk to be opened with just a single press of the 7/8 door keypad buttons when a fob is just inches away from the door. It makes no sense that I need to enter the entire key code and then press 7/8 just to open the frunk when the car has already unlocked itself on approach with a fob in purse/pocket. Easy fix, no? A single press of 7/8 when the car is already unlocked by a nearby fob, just like you can the trunk without reaching into your pockets or opening the driver’s door.

Fix that first, and then you can get to the more complicated stuff like keeping the onscreen frunk button from greying out when the vehicle is turned off. This simple fix would most certainly alleviate 90% of other issues related to the inaccessibility of the frunk when the screen turns off and you can’t reach down into the footwell for whatever reason. You should be able to easily open the frunk from the exterior just like you can the trunk when the vehicle is already unlocked.

When I worked with Autoease to create the trunk aftermarket liftgate we talked about the frunk as well. Not impossible, but decided the effort wasn’t worth the time and R&D. Need to have at least 25 people who are interested and willing to pay to cover initial investment and that’s tough.
you can count on me for 2 kits

Will this turn the car off after a remote start in the same way the FP app button does? It is nice to be able to dump gear in the frunk while the interior continues to be heated/cooled, which requires pushing the start button before manual frunk release.
Hmmm... I know I can lock the car as well using the B Pillar, but I don't think I can shut the power systems off this way.

Coming from a '22 Lightning, I can say that the power frunk was very cool.

Especially at Costco or Sams when people would think you were having engine problems, watching you load up the huge frunk with your purchase.

In the meantime, I like the MME programmed Lightning key fob for the frunk release since the first natural thing to grab is my keys.

Can't use the phone as it involves too many steps...

I am also interested. Has there been any updates in this area? Thanks for all the contributions to the community!

I guess I’m confused as to what is being asked for here. You can pop your trunk ā€˜automatically’ via the FordPass app. I do it all the time.
I’m with you saving some money, Lord knows I modified every Mustang I’ve ever owned and sold, burn through cash updating just to get rid of the car. But I’m with you that button on the FordPass, which pops it, allows you to lift it with your hand is fine For Me.

I’m kind of part way in and part way out on this. I would like to have one, price-dependent. It totally depends on what the vendor would want for the kit. Of course, the assumption is that the kit remains DOT-safe. ?ā€ā™‚?

There are several ways to open the frunk now, but I would get this simply for the ease of closing the frunk.

Not sure I really need this, unless it’s an authorized Ford accessory and ā€œeliminatesā€ the risk of the frunk not closing completely.

Where’s that in the Fordpass app? I’ve been using the keypad on the door frame to pop the trunk.
