Last night, my car stopped charging after an hour instead of charging to 85% as I set it for. When I looked in the ford pass app to see what went wrong I got this message about Electrical Sytem drain. Has anyone ever had this happen? What do you think went wrong?

Few things to check, some dealers install a lojack system without telling the buyer, or do you have a dashcam or anything extra set up in the car?

I'm puzzled as to why it would stop charging, I'm not sure that is related to the system drain warning. As by design the 12v battery is topped up when charging the main battery(or when driving)

The car works on a limited script of warning messages. The electrical system drain message doesn’t mean there is an electrical system drain. The actual trigger for it is the 12V battery voltage below a certain threshold. It can be from opening the door and having the lights come on too many times between driving (when the HVB recharges the 12V battery voltage battery). I get it whenever I detail my car interior because the doors are left open for so long. Could also be an old 12V battery getting near the end of its life. Could be it got real cold and the 12V voltage got low.

So the electrical system drain message is usually a big nothing. As far as why the car stopped charging prematurely… that’s also hard to say without more info. There’s a chance that your EVSE got warm and stopped. There is a chance there was a power fluctuation that paused things. It’s possible Jupiter is in retrograde. If you plug in now does the car charge? Any weird lights on the EVSE?

A similar thing happened to me. I was charging using the mobile power cord. Later I received the same message about a 12V drain. I went out to investigate, saw that the charger had faulted, and the car apparently could not or would not turn all the way off, so the unexpected draw was solved by UNplugging the charger. One time event, charging worked as soon as I put it back in, never saw that message again.

^this exact same thing as Kevin described happened one time to me. I forgot I plugged a battery into the same power strip and when the car started to charge later that night it faulted. But the car stayed awake.
