I had a small mishap yesterday in my condo parkade. I was driving at very low speed and was having difficulty opening the sun glass holder. It didn't open after 3 pushes, so then I pried it open. I was obviously distracted and accidently hit a square concrete post resulting in a minor ding on my hood and bumper. The question I have is, why didn't the emergency braking stop me? I got an oral warning less the a second before impact.

Ouch! I have tried to see if it works but always chicken out at the last minute. I have my doubts.
Someone posted a while back about testing in a parking lot with a big cardboard box and it stopped.

I've tried testing my front emergency braking a number of times. Could never get it to kick in. I always had to hit the brake pedal before my test turned into disaster. It also has never activated in daily driving. The emergency braking on my old 2019 Infiniti Q50 worked like a charm. I came to the conclusion it's not functioning properly on my MME. Or, if there's a "secret" way to turn it on, I'd love to hear about it.

Folks, you should not be trying to test the collision avoidance system by hitting something. It’s a very “last minute” system that in some cases will only lessen impacts rather than completely prevent them. This avoids unnecessary activations unlike some other brands that set it off way too early (which is very annoying as an attentive driver) and can potentially trigger a rear end collision due to excessive deceleration.

Small objects like poles may be ignored. It’s designed to detect cars and pedestrians only.

To prevent false activations, it also doesn’t work at very slow speeds while parking (reverse brake assist is a different story). I think you have to be going at least 10 MPH or so. The risk of injuries in frontal collisions below this speed is very low, hence why it’s not used (the goal is to prevent human injuries, not minor fender benders).

Actually, that makes sense to me for forward collisions. I might have been fooled by the fact that the cross traffic alert while backing out of a parking stall really worked. My MME braked violently when a child suddenly ran behind the car. It saved him from injury for sure!

I can vouch for the fact the AEB works, again, and again, and again, and again?

And that bloody reverse brake assist is neurotic, with no obstructions behind has near given me whiplash numerous times ?

flyboy104: For what it's worth, a piece of metal road debris hit my hood roughly where your hood is damaged. It didn't just dent my hood though; it made a shallow vertical cut into the hood. My insurance company determined the hood needed to be replaced, as did the black trim below the hood that houses the camera. The repair bill came to US$3616.

I believe when you go slow, real slow, the car will not stop you; otherwise, you would never be able to park in your garage.
