I’m okay with someone saying I “EVed the pump” when I do this:

IMG_2284.jpeg

Of course I had a reason to do it (clean my windshield) and stayed with the car at all times while my wife got beer from the store.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree ?.

But this hog is so cute, especially with her red toes! (Though I'll admit they do look a bit bloody?)
Actually, I purposely picked a cute/funny picture so hopefully it would lighten up the message a little.

It has been a while since I put anything on the cars that hog EVSEs. I got tired of doing it, and it just doesn't seem to matter. And it stresses me out, so I am trying the best I can to ignore them. It is hard, especially when I need a charge to get home.

Hence my quest to get the longest range BEV I can get. There are two that are viable: the Lucid Air GT, and the Rivian R1 Max Pack. I definitely prefer the Rivian over a sedan, but I think in the winter I will still have to find a charging spot when I commute to work.

If only the Max Pack was 180 kWh as they originally planned, then I would be able to avoid the a-holes almost all of the time. It would be great to drive to work and not even need to look at them hogging those spaces.

Need a better name than ICEd period. It just breeds more division and animosity between EV and ICE.
My perception is the term is only used between BEV owners. I am not sure a ICEV driver would even understand the term, so I wouldn't even think to use it with them.

I put it on the flyer because I use them on BEVs that are driven by people who probably have experienced or heard of ICEing. And I am trying to point out their actions are actually worse than a ICEV driver who might not understand what they are doing. A BEV driver knows what they are doing when they hog the space. Or if they don't, maybe comparing them to a ICEV driver will help them understand. Maybe.

I yelled at a kid who was parking in a EA space once. He apologized and moved his car. Then I apologized because I was embarrassed that I made such a big deal about it. Since then I have controlled myself because really I don't think acting like that helps anything. I should have been polite and respectful with the young man, because really he had no idea the consequences of what he was doing. He was not intentionally blocking a EA charger with his ICE Mustang. Which I complimented him on after I apologized. From one Mustang driver to the next. ?

People suck, and there's been such an anti-EV rhetoric espoused by some politicians and media figures in America that it gives permission for some people to behave like assholes.

I've tried to grow as a person, and move on to feeling pity for people who feel so threatened by somebody else's mode of transportation that they have to act out on it.

If we live so rent-free in their head, just imagine how sad their own lives are.

Given how EA spaces are clearly marked, how could he possibly not be blocking a space intentionally?

I try to gently educate where possible. In my experience, most Bolt owners don't understand, nor care. I never try to educate a gas truck driver because they already know they are being an ahole, so to address fit only gives them validation.

I left a note once that said "Big tires, big exhaust, little pecker".

In this case, he was with a bunch of friends (they looked like high school age) with their souped up cars, and they backed their cars into the row of spaces next to the EA spots. He was on the end of the line of cars, so his car was in a EA space. I don't think he was paying attention, and he was very apologetic for parking there. He seemed like a nice kid.

Best not to assume bad intent. The spot might have been most convenient, there might have been other charging spots open at the time so they didn't think it was a big deal, etc.

Interestingly, assuming good faith often works even on people who do know what they're doing and are doing it intentionally. Those people might be looking for a reaction, looking to rile up an EV owner. Coming at them with charm and graciousness will often serve to completely disarm them.

Confrontations in todays world is far different today then it was in the 60s growing up as a kid. Its the anger, rage and polarization. Keying ev, icing chargers, coal rolling, road rage and guns. Fender benders turning into murder scenes. Advice to all today is walk away to live another day.
I don’t think it’s any different. The only difference today is that with cameras everywhere, the internet and 24 hour news…..we just hear about it.

People fighting and killing over stupid crap is as old as……..people.

I thought if I ever went back to school, one of the subjects I wanted to write a paper on was why people kill over shiny metals (gold). It’s not even a particularly useful metal even.

Absolutely not. Shootings were not common place. Police were repected. Schools were not run by right wing Christian nationalists. Government was not so polarized. Fender benders didnt lead to some one pulling a gun. Sorry but the 50 and 60s are not like today at all.

Statistics disagree.

If we are talking about crime specifically, the last time crime rates were this low…….were in the 1950s and 60s.

Now before we start reminiscing about the “good old days,” just remember it wasn’t good for everyone.

News coverage of crimes these days make people mistakenly think things are worse than they actually are.

When were things worse? The early 90s. Pretty much every crime rate was double back then compared to now.

So, people have become so stupid that they no longer know they are driving a vehicle with an internal combustion engine? What, because it is knowledge and now knowledge is old school and knowledge is a bad thing and everything "old" is bad and should be eliminated and/or changed? The only thing good is the brain washing propaganda they get when endlessly worshiping their master?
A brave new world or......... something altogether different?
