We have the extended battery, or so the window sticker says, but we haven't been able to get more than 226 miles on the dash yet. We have had the car 2 months tomorrow. Can anyone tell me where one might find a serial number or some sort of identification on the battery, so we can verify it? We would like to double check to be sure it really is extended, as it is really showing what a standard battery would be.
Appreciate any help here!

You are experiencing something called winter. It has a big impact on your guess-o-meter (GOM), which is a very conservative estimate of your potential range.

There are many threads discussing how the GOM (Guess-O-Meter) is not a measure of any use. If your car has the X on the side, then it's extended. In 70 degree weather, you might see the range in the 270 range. When it's below 70, you won't.

Just curious, but because there is such a noticeable difference in dimensions of the 2 batteries, is it possible to see the back end of the battery from above or below?

No. It’s all encased for it’s protection and yours.

Sorry, LOL. I should have said "Is it possible to see the battery housing from underneath or from above"?

There is such an obvious size difference in the height of the housings on the back end.

That should make verifying the type of battery, Standard or Extended Range, easy.

For example, this is a Standard battery that Munro removed.

Nah. That part of the car would be somewhere under the back seat area. While you can pull up the seat cushion from the back seat, there is no access to see the battery enclosure. And looking from underneath you just see the aluminum protective skid plate. It’s all buttoned up pretty tight.

I doubt you have a smaller Standard battery but the VIN should confirm just in case you. See:

I learned that the displayed range is telling you how far you can go based on driving history AND stuff you have turned on in your car, like AC and eHeat, ambient lighting, one pedal drive (+regenerative braking...), headlights on, etc. Adjust these and your driving pattern & your range estimate will vary. I got my display up to 280 miles at 100% (Premium, Ext Batt, RWD).

Looking at OP’s profile, winter probably is a minor part of her problem since she’s in California. She should reset her driving history since new owners spend a lot of time with the car on trying to setup PaaK and the features.

A std range battery probably won’t get 226. The dealer should be able to verify battery size by plugging into the obd2 socket. Reset the driving history should help.
