Among the mach-e and other EV owners I know around here, no one routinely charges at 50%. Most wait till it's lower and they need a charge. Charging around here is a topic of conversation, given the dearth of public charging and the 51¢ base rate for electricity. YMMV

Neither condition really matters tbh. What's the practical point of frequent charging if your typical usage is 30 to 40 miles a day? For me, that's about 10% in around-town use (We have really cool rolling hills here). I'll charge up maybe after day 6 unless I have something planned. If I have a series of trips planned to Kona or Hilo, then I'll charge up before the first and after the third.

Now, I think it'll be a different story if we're talking EREVs. I think folks are going to be surprised at just how small those HV batteries will be. I think we're looking at LFPs that are less than half the size of the current mme HVB. Perhaps substantially less. Then charging at 50% SOC would make a lot more sense. That's one reason I think most folks buying an EREV will end up just not charging at all. It's easier just to gas up and let the ICE take care of things. 🤷‍♂️
I kept the battery charged higher for a couple reasons-

1. Just in case. Never wanted to be in a situation where I could go where I wanted to because I had to wait to charge.

2. Horsepower. This car loses significant power even starting below 90% charge and really loses power below 50%.

But to the point I was making above- people obsess over maximum range and most don’t need it and may NEVER use the max (meaning a time they charged to 100% and drove to near 0%).

If you can't home charge, EV's don't make a lot of sense. Until that problem is solved, it's going to be a struggle
Totally agree with you here. Most people who can home charge have yet to realize how much an EV makes sense for them.

Most people I talk to assume you need a $1,000+ wall box just to own the car. They don't realize that a standard outlet (Level 1) gives you ~30-40 miles overnight, which covers their average commute easily. Once they see the math, it clicks for them.

Mach-e uses between 25% and 30% soc on that run. Figuring 30, we get roughly 26.5 kWh (88 kWh available on my 21 ER) used at 51¢ per kWh or call it $13.50. Our solar system mitigates that too but that’s another consideration.

With all that said, saving on gas isn’t the best justification for an EV. Doesn’t hurt though in those cases.
Also like your solar many have home charging to add to that math. I’m paying 11cents and driving the Mach E is significantly cheaper than driving my wife’s Edge.

So I spent MLK day looking at some electric cars today. Haven’t been around one for more than a year. I’m just curious when I say what I’m going to say is going to get a reaction of your dreaming your imagining lol. So drove this 26 electric car today had 259 miles remaining and as I drove it about 10 miles when we got back to the dealer 270 miles to charge, I was told about the inverter technology, blah blah blah whatever I didn’t understand it but supposedly that would be 342 full charge 596 hp yes
