Probably been discussed before but I could not find a thread so sorry if it has been done.
I'm in the UK and regularity stop on the motorway for some fast charging. Right now I am in a Shell Recharge that goes up to 150kwh. The fastest I have ever seen on this and any other chargers is 50kwh. Is it the charger or the car?.

I had a similar experience here last week at an EA station, despite the 10 bay station only having one other car charging at the time. It definitely felt like the car was the problem.

If I had it to do over again, I would have tried a different plug to see what was up, but my mind was somewhere else at the time and I wasn't in a hurry.

Could be other factors common to all types of DCFC:
  • Temperature
  • Preconditioned battery
  • Starting SOC
  • Shared charge tower output halved
  • Tower output limited by software
  • Off peak vs peak demand on grid

I use Shell ReCharge in the US and they advertise as 50kW but in real charge rate, I get around 90kW peak.

Next time check the panel on the side of the charger unit to see what its maximum power output is. You’ll also start to learn to recognize low power chargers. You may just be using low power chargers.

You also should probably post questions like this in the UK subforum where folks will know the chargers better or under “Battery and Charging”.
