A typical FDRS license is way more expensive in Europe. I actually have to pay 3300 euro for a year !
Offcourse i can create a VPN and create an account in the States but i am a bit worried that i will flash the wrong modules. Some things are different here, like the direction indicator.

A 24 hours license is 60 euro's, now was my idea to download for multiple MME/VIN the firmware and archive them. This way i can actually categorize them in OTA versions.

A few questions about this:

1. Are all Modules (except the USB ones) flashable with forscan ?
2. Is it a good practice to backup first before flash with forscan ?
3. Do i need to worry about firmware/bootloader differences in Job1 and Job2 cars ? And what about the GT ?
4. Can i continue to use the mongoose cable with Forscan ?
5. Can somebody sent me the IPMA update firmware, so i can compare it with the cached one i have here ?
6. Is there a list somewhere that converts/translates the downloaded file (like MU5T-14H009-EBG) to IPMA update ?

I've never done it but I have been doing some digging, so I'll comment on that front.

Yes it is possible, and FORscan will even attempt to find and download the right file for you. But personally I would not make this your regular way to update modules. It's missing a lot of the safety checks that FDRS has.

When FORScan downloads the files for you it doesn't actually know what Ford has approved for your vehicle, it just goes off of what it has seen before on similar vehicles. (Alternatively you can also use firmware files downloaded with FDRS)

As far as firmware versions, they are all over. Even within the same production run some cars can have different hardware revisions than others, and thus different firmware.

So while it is possible, I personally would recommend doing it only when FDRS has failed to complete an update.

Also, I wouldn't worry about the use of a vpn, it uses your VIN to look up your updates. So based on that it should know to only send you European spec updates

mpshizzle nailed it. With Forscan you risk hosing up a module by installing the wrong file. The only time I would suggest Forscan is if FDRS failed to upload part(s) of a multi-file update, and you get stuck in limbo. I had to go this route with FDRS updated F120 but not F188 on my IPC, and then FDRS started freaking out because my part numbers were mismatched. I was fortunate enough too have someone very experienced with IDS/FDRS/Forscan on a screenshare to make sure nothing got screwed up.

Please confirm that.
I was thinking of buying that license at first but one hour didn't seem to be enough for a first update. But if that 1hour license really works for 2 days, then I know what I will do next time.

The trick is do not close FDRS, right ?
no I could close with no problem to reopen 1 day after the activation. in fact if you compare the price for USA and for Europe the price of 1 hours is the price for them for 2 days et price of 1 day is the price for them of 1 week... I suppose that european website hasn't change the designation of the licence price

Most likely there is only a 2 day license and it's either mis-labeled (translation) in the EU or it was a sneaky trick.

Yesterday I decided to give it a try and it's working for me...

From what I've seen the moment you activate the license in FDRS (after the purchase in the website) it will remain active untill midnight of the day after (that's what FDRS reports on the info tab), so today it's still working for me (regardless FDRS being open/close many times) even thoug the website reports no active subscriptions.

So my advice is to try the purchase in the early mornig so it'll stay active longer.

Many thanks to Helly for the precious insight!!!

I recently just had this happen to me when updating the IPC on my 2023 Lincoln Corsair via USB download from FDRS. VIN 5LMCJ2DA7PUL20811. FDRS updated F120 but not F188 on my IPC and now I have a GVMS warning on my IPC module. I can't do a PMI (get an error) and the software update in FDRS is no longer showing up. Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated. What is also weired is my engine/vehicle odometer completed disappeared on my IPC screen after applying this update... Would simply re-inserting the USB and trying the USB update again be a godo recommended next step?

IPC Infor Before Update:
  • F188 - PU5T-14C026-AM
  • F120 - PU5T-14C026-BK
IPS Info After Update:
  • F188 - PU5T-14C026-AM -> why didn't F188 bump suffix with the software update?
  • F120 - PU5T-14C026-DE
