Interesting idea, but it wouldn’t help you in this case.

You already know the key fob is in the car somewhere.

An air tag or similar product would just tell you the same thing.

Good luck with the search!

On a funny note about the “beeping” to find it- a friend of mine has a “cricket beep” sound in his Jeep.

It’s the result of a prank of a friend of his. He made a little electronic thing that is supposed to beep every 10 minutes, and hides them in peoples cars as a prank. It was only supposed to beep for 2 weeks.

2 years later, it’s still beeping. He thinks he threw it into the a/c vent so there is no easy way to get to it.
We have a similar issue - with an AirTag. We bought a Fiat 500e from a friend and he mentioned that he had hidden an AirTag in the car but forgot where. He unlinked the AirTag but it's still there, and sometimes it chirps. All I can tell you for sure is that it sure is well hidden ?

A few days ago shortly after returning home with one of my MME fobs in my pocket, I needed to go out again, and instinctively reached my pockets but the fob wasn't there anymore. I searched the house, the garage and the car to no avail, thus I thought I perhaps dropped it on my outting. I figured if the fob was still in the car or nearby, the car would turn on so I left the other fob and my phone (which has PAK) inside the house far from the garage, to see if the car would turn on, which it did. Not happy with that, I immediately drove the car a block away, turned it off, and then after waiting a minute I was able to turn it back on. That tells me that the missing fob had to be in the car, right? I searched under and to the side of every seat, the trunk area (including under the removable cover), the frunk, glove compartment, I mean everywhere, but still no fob. If anyone has any ideas to help me find it, I'd appreciate the feedback.

I wish FORD would insert some chip in their fobs, that can be connected to via the FORD PASS APP, so using your phone it would help you locate it. Nothing fancy, I wouldn't expect GPS tracking or anything like that, just some loud beeping would do. It's so basic with so much tech nowadays.
We just had this identical experience on our 2022 MME. We took everything out of the car and searched every nook and cranny several times. Drove the car around the block to confirm the FOB was in the car. After the drive, we found it where you would normally expect to find it... wedged between the console and the driver's seat. The thing is, we looked there plenty of times before. I suspect it was riding the seat rail (the moving portion) and eventually slid off to where we could see it. Be sure to pull up the little skirt of carpet they have on the driver's seat to expose the area..

Or an AirTag if you are an Apple Fan Boy
Tile will show it's last location anytime it has connected to the Tile app on your phone. Airtag will report it's location anytime it connects to any Apple device that is part of the Apple "Find My" network. Airtags have been offering this for years and Tile has yet to integrate into Googles "Find My Device" network. It's a bit shallow and elementary to call someone a fanboy for using a superior product that is not available in the Google ecosystem yet.

Chipolo and PebbleBee have devices available for pre order that will work on Googles network in the future. PebbleBee has them for Apple now also,.

I had the same thing happen to me three days ago. I was going mad trying to find it ana I knew I had not been anywhere but the car and the house. Then when I went out to the hanger in another vehicle and started to get my hanger key out, there it was in my pilot bag! The point is, did you have an bags that you might have put it in? I do not understand how it ended up in there.
