I just did my first “road trip” this Friday and Saturday. Went from Springfield MO to Bentonville AR for The Big Sugar (great gravel bike race and will do it again). All my prior charging has been at home or one (essentially) free one at work.
130 mile trip, one way, I knew I should charge before leaving Home and Bentonville. used ABRP to see what it thinks I should do and pointed to a truck stop 50 miles out of Bentonville on the return route. Ford Nav sent me to Walmart to an EA charger in Bentonville. i chose that option As it seemed more conservative with only 28% in the tank.
rolled in. 2 of the 4 chargers were open. Had to reposition my car as the cables were not as long as I thought. Used a 150 charger. The 350 was open but knew there wasn’t an advantage (I assume). Had a WTF moment as it gave me a charge error and then wouldn’t release. But I realized I needed to activate from the ford app. Once I did that it (and followed the prompts) it worked great. Charged at 122 kW. Walked around Walmart for 30 minutes and charged to 80%. Was $32 For 52.4kWh. I was happy
the next day, I needed to top off and used ford nav again to see what was close to where I was parked. The local ford dealer was only 1.5 miles away but I noticed they were Blink and not part of the Plug and Charge. Which i thought was interesting. Plus their fees/rate seemed a bit high. So I just went back to the Walmart as it worked easy for me. I liked the ease of having the app just charge me. Just used ford Nav to get me there. I assumed it preconditioning the batteries along the way.
it is interesting learning this new life of EV and enjoying it.
