Had my first charging fault last night where the charging lights on the vehicle went orange. I have a Wallbox EVSE.
Tried:
  • Unplugging and plugging back in.
  • Unplugging, restarting the wallbox via the app, plugging back in
  • Unplugging, turning the car on then off, restarting the wallbox via the app, plugging back in.
Issue persisted. The Wallbox wasn't showing a fault either (color should have gone red if it detected the fault).

Finally flipped the circuit off and on at the breaker (Wallbox is hardwired), and that appears to have done the trick. Now I'm nervous something may have gone wrong with the subpanel/EVSE installation. This was only the 2nd time I tried to charge since having the wallbox installed and the 1st time worked without issue.

One question I have is - I'm managing the vehicle charging times via Wallbox, but have the vehicle set to 90% charge limit for the location - in the FordPass app should I have "Charge when plugged in" or "Use Preferred charge settings" under Preferred Charge Times? I assume I should have "Charge when plugged in" selected but for some reason the app showed it would charge till 100% (it didn't, it still only charged to 90%)

I would do the reverse, tell the Wallbox to charge when plugged in and set times in Ford Pass. That is probably what is causing the faults, the car is trying to charge, but the Wallbox isn't providing any power so it thinks there is a fault. I'm confident if you reverse your setup, you'll have no issues.

Thanks, I'll try that! Was hoping to use the wallbox scheduling because the FordPass charging estimates seem way off.

I'm pretty sure @Neil4Real is right. I recall seeing a couple of other threads about cars throwing charge faults when their EVSEs were set to schedule charge times. ?‍♂??

I've had my wallbox for over 9 months with no issues and the schedule is set in the Wallbox. Last 2 nights I've gotten the orange ring and had to plug in this morning. Might have to see if I change this to the Ford app whether that will make a difference. As a side note, Wallbox had just updated their app 2 days ago
