I'll be taking a trip to Reno next week from Sacramento. I'm guessing the standard range battery will be able to get me there just fine, even with the elevation change. It's only 150 miles from my house. I plan to report back when I return.

Yeah definitely report back. I'll need to do the Reno drive at some point for work, and my Route 1 has about 75 miles more range than the standard. So depending on how many miles you have when you get there, that's another fun trip I may try to cannonball at some point lol

Just did this trip, from South San Jose... Left at 100% with 265 miles of range indicated. Charged once at the Walmart Supercenter in Stockton for 15 minutes to go from 60% to 80% and then took 88 to Sutter Creek for a short stop then on to S Lake Tahoe. We arrived at the EA charger at B of A with 18% remaining. The charger worked perfectly, and there was a great dog friendly brewery right across from it. Finished my beer just as charging reached 80% (wife took over from there). Really great trip and the Mach-e loved climbing the twisty ridgeline on 88. We drove 5 to 10 miles over the limit the entire way.
So you added 20% and made it with 18%... I'm thinking you could've made it with some slower driving and more stress! ?

Sudelis? Great brewery. One of about 8 in town. Today in warm weather the trip from Folsom to SLT, up 7000 feet and back down 1000, we only lost about 30% of range. Left Folsom withe a projected 190 miles remaining on the battery for a 80 mile trip. Arrived with 80 miles remaining. Round trip was about 175 miles and we have 80 left, 255 miles on 100% charge with all that elevation is far better then I expected from our 4wd Ext.

Perhaps, though I didn't want to test that theory on the first try...

Tahoe is the trip that intrigues me the most with my Route 1. It's about 200 miles from my house to the Electrify America chargers in South Lake, but obviously there's the 7000 feet of elevation change to deal with. Part of me wants to be a lunatic and try to get all the way there from SF, since a friend with a 2018 Model S says he can do it, and I've been averaging about 3.7mpk overall and 3.1+ on the freeway thus far. As long as the 60 or so miles from Placerville to the South Lake EA station don't use the equivalent of 134 miles or more, it should be doable from a full charge.

No trips on the schedule yet, but I usually try to hit up Tahoe at least once during the summer, so we'll see how brazen I'm feeling if the opportunity comes ?
Well, the question of whether you can make it from SF to Tahoe City in a RWD Extended (Route 1 in my case) without stopping to charge is a resounding YES. Easily.

Left the Presidio yesterday with 97% SOC and showing 304 miles on the GOM. Stopped in the Fruitvale district of Oakland to drop something at my storage unit and left Oakland with 93% and 268 in the GOM. When I left Oakland to Tahoe City it was showing that I'd arrive with 82 miles to spare. I monitored this number throughout the trip and when I got to Auburn to start the incline, the miles left at arrival was up to 115. That number did drop pretty drastically, but I arrived at Gar Woods for dinner with the family with 25% SOC and 68 miles remaining. After dinner drove back to my hotel in Truckee and currently am at 23% and 60 miles remaining. Chose to spend the first night here due to the Electrify America station.

I had the cruise set at 3 miles above speed limit until the incline, then switched it to right at the speed limit for the uphill portion.

The way back I'm going to start at 80% and should make it easily since I'll be able to skip the Oakland stop and go over the Golden Gate instead of the Bay, and I'll gain from the decline into the Sacramento area. All in all I'm continuing to be impressed by this vehicle and it's range ?
