Took my first long range trip with my Mach-E. I had a flawless experience, except for one $18 issue. I used the Ford Pass Network to find an in-network D/C charger in South Lake Tahoe (EVgo) to fill up over lunch. Activation and the charge went great except for the fact that I received a receipt for $18 charged to my credit card rather than deduced from my 250kw allowance. Am I missing something?

EVgo is not part of the Ford system. Only Electrify America and Greenlots.

Ford will find all “in network” chargers for you. But the free 250 KW is only for Electrify America chargers.

Here EVgo chargers by the minutes. I wasn't paying attention to that. When it reached 80% I kept going even though the speed dropped dramatically. Cost me a few extra bucks.

@DanCoon if you got any nice pics of the Mach-E with Lake Tahoe, please do share!
Nope, didn't take any photos of the Mach-E. I'm getting tint and Ceramic Pro or a vinyl wrap at the end of the month... I'll be sure to post some good photos then.

Almost. evgo not part of the free 250/500 kw. Evgo is part of the Ford Pass network.

ElectrifyAmerica is in so Lake Tahoe. By BofA and Freshies, great stop for a meal. Or go to McDuffs or even bowling all next door. Or a 45 minute walk on the lake or sip of wine at the wine bar on the lake. Come on up!!! Coming from the Bay Area? Stop at EA stations in Vacaville or Folsom. Use the 350KW pump in Vacaville for working PandGo. The stretch from Folsom up the hill will use almost twice the battery as projected due to the 7000 foot elevation gain so fill up appropriately. 2 lane highway 50 is a joy in the MME. If you want uninhibited fun, pick a weekday early in the morning or night to avoid traffic. The auto brights work great at night.

Tahoe is the trip that intrigues me the most with my Route 1. It's about 200 miles from my house to the Electrify America chargers in South Lake, but obviously there's the 7000 feet of elevation change to deal with. Part of me wants to be a lunatic and try to get all the way there from SF, since a friend with a 2018 Model S says he can do it, and I've been averaging about 3.7mpk overall and 3.1+ on the freeway thus far. As long as the 60 or so miles from Placerville to the South Lake EA station don't use the equivalent of 134 miles or more, it should be doable from a full charge.

No trips on the schedule yet, but I usually try to hit up Tahoe at least once during the summer, so we'll see how brazen I'm feeling if the opportunity comes ?

I drove from the Sacramento area to South Lake Tahoe just fine on the standard range, with plenty to spare. You can do it! There was a noticeable drop in range with increasing elevation, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. There's a few D/C chargers along the way, you can use during a 10 minute pit stop to reduce your range anxiety. There's a really convenient Greenlots D/C charger in Elk Grove next to the Nugget.

100% charge. I say maybe. From folsom to SLT in the cold, I get 1/2 the kw/mi. There is a 50Amp charger in Strawberry if you get nervous ;-)

A simple calculation shows that the loss of range is about 30-40 miles for each mile of elevation. It can be more due to lower temperature.

Just did this trip, from South San Jose... Left at 100% with 265 miles of range indicated. Charged once at the Walmart Supercenter in Stockton for 15 minutes to go from 60% to 80% and then took 88 to Sutter Creek for a short stop then on to S Lake Tahoe. We arrived at the EA charger at B of A with 18% remaining. The charger worked perfectly, and there was a great dog friendly brewery right across from it. Finished my beer just as charging reached 80% (wife took over from there). Really great trip and the Mach-e loved climbing the twisty ridgeline on 88. We drove 5 to 10 miles over the limit the entire way.
