My son crashed this afternoon the Mach E GT.

Do you guys think is this fixable? or could be a total ?

Thank you for your advice and comments in advance

Hope your son and any others involved are okay.

It’s impossible to say if it’s fixable without an understanding of what happened under the vehicle, to the safety structure, and to the battery. It’s also up to the vagaries of your insurance company’s actuary tables…

More than three panels and totally is possible. But know two big exceptions. Friend's Tesla had a tree fall off a cliff requiring all panels to be replaced, same car got hit in another parking lot and need three panels replaced. Car parked and empty both times.

I shake my head when I see these posts. Total guessing on 99% of them. No idea of what cannot be seen. Clearly that's an expensive accident, coupled with a upcoming enormous increase in premiums.

Gotta ask - how old is the son? I see quite a few people letting their kids drive their Mach-Es. If I had had one when my sons were in their late teens, no way in hell would I have let them drive it. My son is closer to 40 and he doesn't get to drive the Lightning when he is in town...

Quite agree with RickMachE’s guesswork thing to an extent but as a vehicle examiner and the assumption this is the OP’s ‘21 MMe, my professional opinion is that it’s officially f**ked!

The wheel’s forced back into the bulkhead so hard to tear it from its suspension mounts there simply must be severe structural damage to the back of the wheelarch, front door pillar and bulkhead area even before considering the battery carrier.

RIP Stangy💀🪦

Hope everybody concerned were all OK.

You can replace the metalwork!

I agree completely. I have a teen driver (and another a year away) and there is no chance they will drive our Mach-E. Besides the fact it is too expensive of a car to put in the hands of a new driver, I don't think it's helpful for the teen to learn how to drive on a car like this. (And yes, they are still learning even after they have completed their driving test)

They are being set up to fail by learning on a car that does not perform like most other cars on the road - especially one that they will be able to afford once they set out on their own.

Too right, learning to pass a driving test is an entirely different matter to learning to drive🤷🏼‍♂️

When I lived in Texas, my insurance company told me that 90% of the instances where the airbags deploy, it's a total.

Your insurance company might see it differently.

Generally, they don't repair damage that costs more than the vehicles appraised value before the accident.

My guess is that one is toast.

Giving your opinions on if someone son should drive the vehicle is as useless as people guessing if it’s totaled based on some pictures.

I first learned to drive in my parents Volkswagen. I took a Driver's Ed class when I was 15 so I could get cheaper insurance. In the class, they had us driving Ford Torinos with V8's, and one student smashed hard into another in the parking lot. I told the instructor I wasn't used to the power of the Torino - he told me he wasn't happy that they were the cars provided in the driving class.

I agree that young drivers should not have access to high power cars.

But yeah, I was driving a big V8 when I was 15 .....

Thank you all, I was expecting the good news from the insurance company, and they came with bad news, that the vehicle might no be repairable 🥺, I love the GT, now we went down from 3 Ford EVs to 2, my wife has the Mach E Premium and I drive the Lightning Flash.

……is your opinion to which, of course, you are entitled but entirely ignores what the OP asked which is: “Do you guys think is this fixable? or could be a total ?”

Some gave what might be unqualified guesses on whether the car is totalled and even whether anybody’s thoughts requested by the OP on this are even possible; I provided an opinion based upon a lifetime experience of a forensic vehicle examiner and expert witness to the Courts in relation to such matters so may not quite be so “useless” a you put it.

Opinions on whether a youngster should drive the car arose from a poster’s unsolicited opinion on this which is a sub-thread others also commented upon but it remains true that learning to pass a test is not the same as learning to drive and cannot provide anything beyond a very basic experience of “driving”.

It really doesn’t matter what any of us tell them. What matters is what the claims adjuster decides based upon the evidence. Anything we say is going to either mislead or cause unnecessary angst. Sort of like the rest of the forum. ;)
