I lost the part number, it was for my ‘21 that got totaled by the dealer . I think the difference was the charcoal activated, don’t get too fancy with the filter, I tried a filter with charcoal beads and a lower micron on my Lightning and my blower started making noises. Installed one with just activated charcoal and it worked fine.

When you do change it, write your initials and the date on it so when a dealer shows you a dirty air filter you know if it is yours or not. I’ve had it happen!

Thanks much for the info!

We should start a broken clip club! I broke one also.
I watched a YouTube video and still broke the clip. Maybe a glove box light would’ve helped. Or build them stronger then a toothpick.

Youtube... I feel I could fix anything because of Youtube. I'm trying to talk my wife into DIY dentistry--she's not buying it.

You would need to be VERY gentle with the tabs. Many of us have broken them and they are on the car side, so cannot be replaced.

I also agree w/ Lee about buying the premium fpp89 filter instead of the regular one. Living in the city where garages smell badly for most of the year, the premium filter is a godsend.
Man, you’re not kidding about the tabs. I broke two of the four in there and I thought I was being gentle but firm. That’s a really shitty design.

I did the same thing. What a piece of crap. And I’m sure if I order a replacement part Ford will charge me $50 for a five cent piece of plastic.

Not sure where you guys are, but these tabs may break easily due to cold weather. I would wait for summer heat and then change the filter. Plastic is way more flexible when its hot.

I replaced mine for the first time around a month ago. Based on all the horror stories, I was extra careful. I observed that it is difficult to tell how far you need to bend the tabs to release the filter access door, which probably results in many people bending them too far. To avoid this, I pulled on the access door and then gently pulled the tab back until I felt the door release. Repeated on other side and door opened without breaking either tab.

Never inspect or replace the filter.

Just kidding... I haven't broken the tabs yet even after 3 or 4 replacements... But dang they seem crazy fragile.
Thanks! I inspected it, just from the other side. The Ford tech failed when he installed it.

Only replace the filter once the cabin is warm (because cold plastic is brittle), and only bend the tab the minimum needed for it to unclick. Be very careful with it and don't use a lot of force. If it breaks, you will have to replace it with a screw.

Thanks! I'll park it in the sun for a few hours before I change it.
