Ford is going to have a hard time charging for their navigation system if they can’t make it as good if not better than CarPlay.

I don't talk to my phone or my car, just my dog (occasionally my wife ?).
<SNIP>
I sometimes give the car voice direction. Occasionally the car or Siri responds. My dog, OTOH responds often. Sometimes when I’m directing the car. ??

It has an override button
You don’t even need to override anything to replace a charger on the move. I’ve done it many times, by myself without overriding. It WILL only let you look at, maybe, two scrolling pages of the displayed nearby chargers before it says something like “this is not available while moving.”

The overall design and features of the navigation I find to be superior to Google maps in many ways.

I like the "ding only" option for navigation sound.

I like the simple and clear design and colors

I like that at a glance you can see what city you're in, what road you're on, and your altitude.

I like how the roads are labeled (small arow with the street name above it)

I like the road sign navigation notifications

I really like how it shows you which lane you can be in and which one you should be in (solid blue is the lane you should merge to, outlined blue is also optional lane) this is far superior to Google and causes way less confusion when driving on complicated freeways you're unfamiliar with.

I like that when you really zoom in it shows the lanes of the road/freeway

I like how it shows your chargers and landmarks nearby with the blue icons on the map.

There's a few other features that I find superior to other apps as well.

The search function is absolute trash and unreliable. I think it's both a database and search algorithm issue. It seems to be missing a lot of things and it's also terrible at trying to predict the right location when not spelled/voiced as the exact name in the database.
The actual voice recognition is pretty bad as well. I speak slow and very clearly to it and it still isn't accurate.
After you say "take me to x" it's annoying how it says "choose a selection" and then continues to listen to you, it shouldn't continue to listen, I'm often talking to my passenger about which location to go to.
That and it should show you the map and a list of the options and their locations on the map (as it does when you type in the map search bar)

When it comes to the actual navigation part, it's inferior to Google maps in almost every way.

As you say sometimes it'll take you to said location, only for it to actually take you a few blocks away or around the corner of the actual location, and then Google maps will take you to the correct location.

I've also found that you can't really trust it to take you the fastest/ best route. It has taken me on a horrible route in the past or has shown me a bad route, only for me to check Google maps and show a better/ faster route. Like ford will show 1hr drive and Google will be 45mins

I wish they would just turn it over to google maps and let it have more access to battery state and conditioning.
For some time, Google has had all the access required for IPC turn directions, battery state, and preconditioning, as has Apple. You'll need to address that concern with Google and/or Apple.

I've never encountered an in car nav that was as good as the phone apps. Some of the first cars with nav, updating them was a nightmare, you'd have to buy the cds. That said, ford only charges like $80 a year for nav, well worth it for the little I need nav.

Enter car. Connect to Android Auto. Problem solved.
With the exception of Tesla, I have yet to come across any in car MMI that are remotely advanced nor intuitive. Just use AA/ACP.

I use the Ford nav and dont have issues, I find Alexa to be 10x more accurate when so I never use Ford voice commands. Ford wont find the buisness, Alexa does easily.
Me too.
I'm probably not the biggest Nav user, but Alexa works Nav magic in both of my Ford's. It's amazing how easy it is too. No reason to touch anything or pull over.

CDs? That's nothing. My Lexus had a navigation system even more primitive than that. There were no CDs - the map data came on a hard disk. It cost over $300 to have them install a new CD with updated maps, but it was free during the warranty period. So I never got another update after my warranty expired.

I have to say, however, that the navigation worked quite well, and still does after all these years!

I’ve never found the voice commands in any car I’ve owned to work well. Maybe it’s my Tennessee accent. The ford nav has worked fine for me and it’s the only way to get battery pre-conditioning if going to a DCFC. For most navigation I use CarPlay and Apple Maps. It connects with the car, knows the SOC, and is accurate.

Ford nav has become almost worthless.
1. Enter address, shows calculation to 100%, shows starting navigation, then goes to start nav screen. If I leave it about 3-5 min latter suddenly shows route.
2. Navigation to wrong place. 3x has navigated to wrong place. Name of business correct, address correct, city correct, 2x residential area telling me I arrived? Had to use Google, same name, same address, and gets me from where I am to where I am supposed to be.
3. Voice command will only find business if exactly matches name. I.e. say church name and city, lists all kinds of churches by me, but not even churches in right city. Say just church name leave off church nothing. Say electrify America lists some, say EA differant ones, but not one I am looking for. Must get ENTIRE name correct. I.e. kent valley ice arena. Kent ice arena nada.
4. Finding charge station from navigation screen next to impossible unless stopped. Trying to change charge station on trip can also be tricky.
5. Voice command can't find something, type in it can. But can't type while moving.
Why do I need 3 apps to find charger? And have to verify route with maps?
What am I doing wrong?
There was a time when I would select "Home" after selecting the "Where To" option and I would get a direct route to the correct destination. That no longer appears to be happening. Now it appears that the route chosen is based on speed rather than the most direct path. I get voice commands to make turns that would take me away from my destination. Maybe someday I'll drive the proposed route and see where I end up, but I haven't had the time.

At this point, only Ford Nav will precondition the battery for DCFC. Hoping some day that will change.

The UI is terrible. They sort the list by distance but why would I care about the chargers behind me. They should prioritize the list by direction somehow. Or just show the map instead of the list.

No argument from me on that. It does show both a map and a list though.
