Hi 773flyer

Awesome, I couldn't see the forrest for the trees!

Thank you again for your help with this ??

Mark
The new ui caused a lot of that. The question isn’t uncommon.

I know I'm opening up a whole can of worms and hurt feelings with this, but what exactly determines whether or not you get an electronic frunk release? The little MFG panel inside my Rt1 door says 6/21

edit: oh yea, and I'm in the US if that matters.
Job 1 cars (before early July 2021) don’t have an electronic Frunk release. You can wait for Ford to change their mind and push the update to our cars after all (happening the first Thursday after never), you can take it the dealer to have them update the bcm and gfm modules then run the routine to put the switch in the sync screen — potentially at your own expense, or you can find an enthusiast who has an FDRS account and equipment to do it for you, or you can live with it as it is. Good luck.

Thanks did not know and do you have a frunk button on your app? ;)
Sadly, I do not. Apparently, that is something that has to be done by the Ford Galactic Supercomputer in Dearborn and nobody has figured out the correct passphrase to get the mainframe acolytes to enable it. I'm told an elite team of hackers are on the case though, so "soon" :D

see, that's what I've been reading but I guess what I'm confused about is this: So my car physically HAS a mechanism to release the frunk electronically, but not the software to do so? so it's not something someone would need to physically install? I'm not pressed about it either way, I'm just confused about the actual issue.

The actual issue apparently was primarily related to regulatory issues with the then proposed (and now production) version of the emergency frunk release. The emergency frunk release for trapped toddlers and the remote frunk release use the same basic mechanism. This was why the frunk dividers were put in Job 1 cars -- to prevent a regulation-sized toddler from climbing into the frunk and having the lid closed on them. Once regulatory approval was granted, the system was enabled on Job 2 cars (after early July 2021), and no dividers were installed. All production models have the same frunk hardware, it simply hasn't been enabled via an OTA update for job 1 cars and it seems its unlikely to ever be enabled via OTA updates by Ford.

You will have to have patience as that is the same super-computer that is sending millions of departures schedules a second out to Ford vehicles throughout the world unsuccessfully.

Got the update today and now with a few issues…
  • Power on/off within the volume knob is gone.
  • Knob doesn’t adjust radio volume but steering wheel controls still works.
  • Knob also doesn’t work when changing the temperature
Any suggestions?
