Hi,

getting confusing opinions from google

can I use Forscan on windows to check for HV battery health and 12V battery ?

Or is this only for usb dongles ?

You don’t need FORScan for HVB SoH (high Voltage battery state of health).

Standard OBD Bluetooth dongle and Car Scanner app is all you need for that.

To the very best of my knowledge, FORScan or anything else won’t give you LVB SoH which requires old-school battery testing ie fully charge and test with specific battery tester.

You’ll get LVB SoC (state of charge) from anything from basic Voltmeter, Car Scanner etc to give you a LVB voltage but even that’s tricky with battery connected because the car must be asleep or you’ll just get a Voltage reading of the DC/DC converter which charges the LVB from HVB.

The BT OBD dongle can be as cheap as chips.

I use OBDLinx MX+ though which is probably around the best but quite expensive - VERY expensive in fact when you leave them plugged in all over the country

for what it's worth, when connecting via Forscan to the car, the main screen will show the voltage of the 12v battery along the very bottom. Not the SOH, just the voltage.

If the DC/DC is charging which it will be unless the car’s asleep this will be the charger Voltage not battery Voltage.

I think when OP is saying 'Just Forscan', he is saying that he has ForScan installed on a Windows PC and he has an OBDLink EX, and wants to know if the USB based EX will work on the Mach-E...

If you just want to READ details from your OBD port (or reset DTC codes), this works great for me on my phone with carscanner

Forscan is mostly for CHANGING settings for your car. Most any OBD app can read/clear.

The information that can be read about a 12V battery using diagnostic scanners includes STATE OF CHARGE, LIFETIME, VOLTAGE, and CURRENT. Battery health should be checked with load testers, such as "MIDTRONICS."

On the other hand, OBD testers can provide more information about HV batteries, including cell voltages, capacity, SOH, SOC, and so on.
